Summary
Warning! Preview images for X-Men (2024) #2 ahead!Cyclopshas assembled a newX-Menteam from the ground up, but that doesn’t mean he has to like all its members, or their codenames, as he just made one mutant pointedly aware of. It’s an understandable reaction from Scott Summers, as the codename in question only brings up bad memories for him, but it’s something he’ll have to deal with.
In the preview for the upcomingX-Men (2024)#2 by Jed MacKay, Ryan Stegman, Marte Gracia and VC’s Clayton Cowles,Cyclops tells Quentin Quire that he hates Quentin’s codename of Kid Omega. Of course, this is all the more reason for Quentin to keep using it.

It makes perfect sense that Cyclops would hate the codename. Quentin acquired the Kid Omega codename in his first appearance in 2002’sNew X-Men#134. The Quentin ofNew X-Menalso adopted the omega symbol atop an X for his Omega Gang, which killed human bigots and instigated a riot at Xavier’s, leaving several dead and Quentin incorporeal (he got better).
New X-Men vol 1 #134is written by Grant Morrison, penciled by Keron Grant, inked by Norm Rapmund, colored by Chris Chuckry and lettered by Richard Starkings and Saida Temofonte.

Cyclops Leads a Mutant Revolution in Marvel’s Post-Krakoa X-MEN Series
Check out Cyclops' all-star team of mutant revolutionaries in the new X-MEN series debuting in Marvel’s post-Krakoa From the Ashes era.
Cyclops Has a Good Reason for Hating Kid Omega’s Codename
For Cyclops, Quentin continuing to use the Kid Omega codename is a reminder of the young mutant’s violent past.Of course, it also has meaning for Quentin, beyond just annoying Cyclops. For one, it’s him being proud of his statusas an Omega Level mutant, a mutant with no measurable upper limit. It’s also a political statement.New X-Menintroduced the idea that mutants would eventually outnumber humanity, becoming Earth’s dominant species. Quentin adopted the omega, the final letter of the Greek alphabet, as his symbole because it also symbolized ending or finality, thus symbolizing mutant domination over humanity.
Quentin’s been on a long, somewhat redemptive, road since his days as a violent radical, but his codename is a constant reminder of his past.He might not be actively murderous in the same pathetically immature way he was inNew X-Men, but he’s still a smart-ass who’s willing to fight for mutant rights. In fact, many of the members of this new team are radicals, including Magneto, who Quentinalso used as a symbolinNew X-Men, and Quentin’s ex-girlfriend Idie, who also recently grew into more radical politics.

Cyclops and Quentin Aren’t So Different
In fact, Quentin’s attitude actually puts him in line with how Cyclops himself has been depicted since the late 2000s. In particular,Scott had his own “revolutionary” phasefollowing 2012’sAvengers vs X-Men, where he became a pariah for killing Professor X while possessed by the Phoenix. Even with Xavier’s return and Scott’s own death and rebirth, Cyclops has still kept his independent streak. It’s funny then that, of the newX-Men, it’sCyclopsand Kid Omega who can’t get along, even as they mirror each other more than either would admit.
Cyclops
Cyclops, a.k.a. Scott Summers, is the X-Men’s core team leader and one of the first characters to appear in the franchise. As a human/mutant hybrid, Cyclops has the power to launch massive bursts of energy from his eyes that are regulated through the use of a specially designed visor. Despite his calm and collected demeanor, he tends to lose it when in the presence of a fellow team member, Wolverine.
