Game of Thrones: Kingsroadmay still be a few months away but fans eager to see Netmarble’s take on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy epic can check out a small slice of gameplay now. Announced in late 2024,Kingsroadpromises to be the most ambitiousGame of Thronesvideo game yet thanks to a seemingly robust combat system and sprawling narrative. Whether or not the final product delivers remains to be seen, butNetmarble wants to help set expectations with a free demoshowcasing a portion of the experience.

Over on Steam,Netmarblereleased theKingsroaddemo to coincide with the ongoing Next Fest event, allowing everyone to return to Westeros and see what the action RPG is about. Players may want to act fast though as the demo will only be available until March 4 and it’s currently unknown whether progress will carry forward into the game’s final build. Additionally, Netmarble cautions fans thatthe demo is a test build ofKingsroad, reassuring users that changes will likely be madeto the experience ahead of the official launch later in 2025.

What To Expect From Game Of Thrones: Kingsroad

As Expected, Winter Is Coming

Netmarble promises thatGame of Thrones: Kingsroadwill take full advantage of the sprawling fantasy world, allowing players to create a unique character and play through an originalstory set during Season 4of the HBO series. As a child of House Tyre, a lesser-known family of minor nobles in the North, players will need to team up with recognizable characters, like Jon Snow, to survive all manner of perils. There’s more than just Wildlings and White Walkers threatening House Tyre andKingsroadaims to deliver the political intrigue fans have come to expect fromGame of Thrones.

With a heavyemphasis on skill-driven combatand open-world exploration, Netmarble wants to deliver the kind ofGame of Thronesvideo game players have wanted for over a decade. While the demo is only available on Steam, the game will also be playable on iOS and Android devices. Fans are wary about the implications of a mobile release but the full extent of the monetization has yet to be seen.

A Game Of Thrones Game Already Has The Perfect Story To Explore, But GoT: Kingsroad Isn’t It

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is set during the events of the HBO series. This is disappointing because there is a much better setting for a game.

Hopefully, The Substance Matches The Presentation

From an aesthetic perspective, it’s clear thatGame of Thrones: Kingsroadsuccessfully captures the look and feel of the HBO series but whether it delivers a fun game remains to be seen.I’m sure fans will love returning to the grim world but action RPGs can be fairly hit-or-miss, even when they’re not targeting a mobile audience. I hope Netmarble can deliver withKingsroad;I can’t help but feel thatGame of Throneshasplenty of video game potentialthat’s, so far, largely been ignored.
