Xenoblade Chronicles Xis more of a sci-fi game than theXenoblade Chroniclestrilogy, and is unconnected from those games. It is set during the year 2054 and follows a group of survivors who crash-landed on thehuge and varied open-worldplanet Mira after fleeing Earth after it was destroyed in the crossfire of a war between two alien species. The player is a silent custom-made protagonist who joins the BLADE organization and its band of misfits as they attempt to build up their community in the city of New Los Angeles and make a home for themselves on Mira.

How Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Is Different On Switch
Visual Enhancements & New Story Content
TheXenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Editionhas several key differences from the original Wii U title. Most notable are the visuals, which are a step up from the original game.Character models look much better with faces that more closely resemble those ofXenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, textures have been enhanced across the board, with New Los Angeles looking more impressive. However, for the most part, it doesn’t look massively different from the original, with the jump from Wii U to Switch being less dramatic than the first game’s transition. The Wii U version did look incredible after all.
However,more important than the visual upgrade is the new story contentthat’s being added for theDefinitive Editionrelease. While Nintendo has been fairly tight-lipped about what this new story content will be, it looks like it’ll focus on the game’s post-credit sequence, which left players with a bit of an unsatisfying cliffhanger in the original game. In the Definitive Edition trailer, that post-credit sequence of Lao lying on the beach appears, although it’s got some important differences, namely that the person approaching him is actually visible and speaks.
In addition to this new story content,players will also be able to access the online modes- so long as they have a Nintendo Switch Online account. This online content, which was available in the original game, allows players to join up to 31 other people in a variety of missions. These include Squad Tasks, Online Missions, and Global Nemesis Battles. It’s fun to see these return in theDefinitive Editionrelease, as they were a fun addition to the original game.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s Open World Is A Great Blueprint For JRPGs
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has launched on the Nintendo Switch and features an open world map that should be the blueprint for future JRPGs.
It’s worth noting that theXenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Editioncame with a brand-new DLC calledFuture Connectedthat lasted around 15 hours. It added a lot of cut content from the original game, including a whole new area. While Nintendo hasn’t said whether theXenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Editionwill get the same treatment, it’s not hard to imagine it will. Regardless, it’s great to see such a beloved Wii U game on the Switch, and thatXenoblade Chroniclesfans finally get access to all the games in one place.
