Summary
Gladiator 2’s first trailer has been released, and it looks better than I ever imagined. When Ridley Scott announced his plans to direct aGladiatorsequel two decades after the first movie, I had doubts about whether this was a good idea. Still, compared to the number of legacy sequels and reboots released every year,Gladiator 2did sound like a more interesting project. That said, considering how difficult it is to replicate the magic of a classic likeGladiator, I needed to see what the first trailer was going to look like first.
Naturally, there were a lot of reasons to be excited about the sequel even before the trailer came out. This includes theGladiator 2cast, which includes names like Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, and Joseph Quinn. The first couple ofGladiator 2imagesand the official poster got me excited, but I could not wait to see what the movie was actually going to look like. Fortunately, not only did theGladiator 2trailer not disappoint, but it blew my expectations out of the water.

Gladiator 2’s Trailer Is Brilliant
The visuals and the performances look promising.
The firsttrailer forGladiator 2looks much better than I thought it would. Although it is no surprise that a Ridley Scott movie looks good, there were a lot of reasons to be concerned about whatGladiator 2was going to be like. It may be too soon to say whether the sequel will work, especially compared to the first movie, but the trailer is brilliant. From the visuals to what we have seen from the performances,Gladiator 2is shaping up to be one of the best movies of the year based on the first trailer.
I’m starting to believe thatGladiator 2will be a better return to a beloved movie for Ridley Scott than theAlienprequels ever were.

Even the use of contemporary music in the trailer works surprisingly well. I was particularly excited to learn more about the characters and their connections to the originalGladiator, which the trailer does well. Although some story details had already been released, I feel like I now know just enough aboutGladiator 2’s story. The trailer is full of callbacks toGladiator, but they come out as organic referencesinstead of just nostalgia bait. I was impressed by the quality of the visual effects, which has sadly become a problem with major blockbusters.
No Church in the Wildby Jay-Z and Ye plays during theGladiator 2trailer.

It’s Remarkable Gladiator 2 Looks This Good
Gladiator 2’s story sounded too risky.
A sequel toGladiatorreleasing more than 20 years after the first movie with an entirely different cast playing new characters in a legacy story did not sound like a fantastic idea at first. At a time when any beloved movie or TV show from the past can be rebooted, remade, or become a franchise,it made sense to be cautiously optimistic about Scott’s return to the world ofGladiator. However, many of the doubts I had about the sequel are gone after the first trailer.Gladiator 2does not seem like it is trying to copy its predecessor.
Gladiator 2 Timeline: When The Sequel Is Set & How Long After The First Movie
Gladiator II is set to continue the original’s story years after it was released, and the sequel will also take place years after Maximus' death.
Recent Ridley Scott movies have struggled at the box office, yet there was no reason to doubt that the iconic director could pull off something as ambitious asGladiator 2. For example, the way Scott combines practical sets with visual effects, which he has done greatly for years, can be noticed in several shots of theGladiator 2trailer. I’m starting to believe thatGladiator 2will be a better return to a beloved movie for Ridley Scott than theAlienprequels ever were. Hopefully, theGladiatorsequel will live up to its promising cast and trailer.
