Summary

Below Deck Mediterraneanseason 9 has tested its crew members, and several appear unfit for their positions. The season got off to a challenging start with delayed provisions on the first charter, a love triangle within the crew, and Chief Stew Aesha Scott being rushed to the hospital for a thumb injury. The crew has worked to keep up appearances for the guests, but below deck, they struggle to hold everything together. Captain Sandy Yawn expressed dissatisfaction with the performances of several of the crew.

Sandy is at the helm of the superyacht Mustique inBelow Deck Mediterraneanseason 9. Sandy and Aesha are the only crew members with prior experience in theBelow Deckfranchise, while the rest are appearing on camera for the first time. Filming certainly adds stress to the job, and although the new crew members may have plenty of experience on yachts, working on the Mustique has unique demands. Chef Johnathan Shillingford Hasn’t Received The Best Reviews On His Food

Several Of The Guests And Crew Criticized His Cooking

Mustique’s Chef, Johnathan “Jono” Shillingford, started the season strong, impressing the first group of charter guests with his ability to accommodate their preferences despite the lack of provisions. He did, however, create drama with Stew Elena “Ellie” Dubaich when he refused to get out of bed to prepare late-night snacks for the guests. Sandy told Ellie she was wrong, citing the rule to “never wake the chef.” However, the guests put late-night snacks on their preference sheets, and Jono promised to prepare food for them before going to sleep.

Jono’s cooking fails soon became a bigger issue than his personal problems. The second charter guests were unimpressed by his food, which was a huge problem considering the guests were friends of Sandy’s. Jono is a self-taught chef, and his lack of formal training began to show when he made a series of mistakes. He served the guests cold eggs, an underwhelming chicken dish, and a bland sponge cake. The guests’ negative feedback caused Sandy to line up a replacementchef. While Jono has worked hard to turn his performance around, his next mistake could get him fired.

Iain Maclean Has Been Corrected By Captain Sandy More Than Once

Iain’s Mistakes Made Him Unpopular Among The Crew

Bosun Iain Maclean is also on the short list of who would get fired.Iain’s laid-back attitude caused him trouble with Sandyas well as the deck crew. Iain’s inattention led one of the guests to nearly be swept away on a paddle board without anybody on the Mustique noticing. Sandy was quick to tell Iain that, as Bosun, he was responsible for the guests’ safety.Sandy was dissatisfied with Iain again after discovering he had made Joe Bradley lead deckhand, despite Joe’s inexperience, over Nathan Gallagher, who was clearly a better fit for the role.

The deck crew took issue with Iain after a beach daybecame a near-disaster under his leadership. Iain failed to help with the beach setup, instead returning to the Mustique and leaving the deck crew scrambling. He then brought the guests to the beach before the setup was complete.Iain did not acknowledge his mistakes, which caused the crew to distrust him as a leader. With Sandy and his coworkers dissatisfied,Iain should be firedfirst.

Bri has been scrambling to avoid being fired throughout season 9.

Joe’s lack of experience has been overshadowed by his contribution to drama within the crew.
