What Are the Diagram AI Tools in Figma?
Although Figma announced the acquisition of Diagram and its tools and features in June 2023, it hasn’t been confirmed if Diagram will remain as plugins for Figma or become integrated directly as native AI tools.
Diagram is the overarching group name of these tools, but it offers a small handful of individually available tools that each provide something unique to your Figma projects. Diagram Magician is the main Diagram tool, but there’s also Diagram Automator and Diagram Genius.

All these tools and everything Diagram is embedding into Figma uses UI-AI—that’s User Interface Artificial Intelligence. This allows Diagram and Figma to work together to push your UX/UI designs further, speed up your workflow, and help you create the best work you can.
How Does Diagram Magician Work?
Diagram Magicianis like having a digital magic wand in your toolbox. Magician utilizes text-to-image AI technology as well as generative text technology to help you increase your creative output like magic.
Magic Icon allows you to describe any vector SVG icon you can imagine, and Magician will turn it into reality in Figma. While there areplenty of places to download SVG files, with Magician, you can create AI-generated SVG icons that match your designs and save you time searching for them yourself.

Magic Copy is an AI-generated text creator. This Magician tool lets you create copy for your projects that are suggested by AI to work directly in your Figma project. While you shouldn’t rely solely on AI-generated copy, it’s definitely a great way to get started.
There might be some stiff competition between Figma and Canva with these integrated tools;Canva has Canva Magic Write—an AI text tool—as well asCanva’s text-to-image tools.

What Can You Do With Diagram Genius?
Diagram Geniusisn’t yet live in Figma at the time of writing, but Diagram has introduced it, and we can share what to expect from this upcoming AI design feature.
To coincide with Diagram Magician, Genius allows you to create entire UX/UI designs using generative AI. Genius works as an AI design companion; its AI model means you don’t have to stop for discussion meetings with your design team—Genius knows it all already.
With Genius, you can collaborate on Figma designs; you start off and Genius follows. It uses your existing designs to guess or suggest what to implement next, saving you half the workload. You can also use text-to-image technology for Genius to design on your behalf.
What Is Diagram Automator?
WithDiagram Automator’s technology, you can automate aspects of your Figma workflow. Automator uses UI-AI that helps you automate monotonous workflow elements without the need for code.
Automator can set color schemes in one click, create and implement design instances in Figma, and you can even share your automations with your Figma team, so everyone can benefit.
Automating your design work will save a ton of time, but you can alsouse a master template in Figmaif you still prefer working without AI.
Is Diagram Free for Figma Users?
Diagram began its life as a Figma plugin, but it isn’t confirmed if it’s to be fully integrated into Figma itself as standard AI tools. Most of Figma’s toolbox is free for users, but there are different tiers available, from free to enterprise levels.
To use Diagram in Figma, you need to pay for access to the plugins—Magician, Automator, and Genius. These payments are not taken in the way of a Figma subscription and instead are individually charged from each plugin’s community page.
Diagram is offering Magician for $9 per month or $49 per year. It claims this price is all-encompassing of future updates and all features. The good news is that although you need to pay for the AI tools, you can get a 21-day free trial to test them first.
Until Figma decides how to formally integrate its acquisition of Diagram AI tools, this is the expected way to access them.
Design With AI Assistants in Figma
Having your own design assistant is made possible with Diagram for Figma. These AI tools offer many benefits to UX/UI design workflows, including automation, icon generation, and copywriting to name just a few.
This is only the beginning of the Figma-Diagram integration relationship, and it’s an exciting start with Diagram already teasing what’s next to come.
