Summary

Thoris not only a founding member of theAvengers, but he’s also arguably the strongest of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. And it seems that god-tier strength runs in Thor’s family (so to speak), as his ‘brother’, Nobilus, founded a superhuman squad of his own, and the team created by this ‘evil twin brother’ ofThor makes the original Avengers look weakby comparison.

InThe Mighty Thor#420 by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, readers are introduced to Nobilus, the brother of Thor. Well, sort of. Nobilus does make his debut in this issue, but he’s not exactly Thor’s brother so much as he’s Thor’s clone. When Thor previously had his beard shaved, the DNA from his hair and blood were given to the High Evolutionary, and he used Thor’s DNA to create a near-perfect clone of the God of Thunder - and he didn’t stop there.

After creating Nobilus inThe Mighty Thor#420, the High Evolutionary created an entire team of false gods inThe Mighty Thor#422, as he was attempting to give life to a new type of immortal species. That team, which Nobilus was a founding member of, was called the New Immortals. The New Immortals were challenged by Thor and Hercules upon their creation, and while they fought, their war was interrupted by a Celestial attack, leaving no true victor. However, what’s seemingly obvious - even with that inconclusive ending - is that the New Immortals would have easily overpowered the Avengers.

Every Member of the New Immortals was a Thor-Level Threat, Too Powerful for the Avengers

Especially when considering earlier incarnations of the Avengers, it’s easy to see how the New Immortals would absolutely dominate them in battle. Thor could barely handle Nobilus by himself, and Hercules was defeated by the New Immortals when he challenged them. That does not bode well for the mortal members of the Avengers, like Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye.

Sure, the Avengers are Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but the New Immortals team consists entirely of cosmically powerful entities, and a team is only as powerful as its weakest member. While the likes of Thor and Hulk could assuredly hold their own against the New Immortals (with Thor proving as much in this storyline), the ‘weaker’ Avengers would be torn to shreds by these manufactured gods. That’s especially true when considering Nobilus himself, who alone could tear through most of the Avengers because of one key aspect to his existence.

Thor’s Next MCU Nemesis Has the Coolest Codename & GIANT-SIZE THOR Wants You to Know It

Thor is about to have a new nemesis in the MCU, & that nemesis will also be prominently featured in the upcoming Giant-Size Thor with a cool codename.

Nobilus is Thor’s ‘Evil Twin’ Because of 1 Key Ingredient in His Creation: Loki

When the High Evolutionary created Nobilus from the DNA of Thor, that DNA also included an old enchantment Loki cast on the God of Thunder - one of evil influence. Since the evil residue of Loki’s magic lingered in Thor’s DNA, it was passed to Nobilus upon his creation. The outcome was that Nobilus would fly into a berserker rage, brutally killing anyone who opposed him. Thor himself was barely able to hold his clone at bay when he went into that rampaging state, meaning practically none of the other Avengers would survive if they found themselves in his destructive path.

Of course, if these two teams ever really faced off, the teamwork, tactical brilliance, and sheer intelligence behind the Avengers would assuredly win them the day, as they’ve faced cosmic entities before and have always come out on top. However, when considering raw power alone, or a scenario where the Avengers were unexpectedly thrust into battle against the New Immortals, it’s fair to assume Earth’s Mightiest Heroes wouldn’t stand a chance. And the main factor is Nobilus, the ‘brother’ ofThor, who founded a team that makes theAvengerslook weak.
