The DC All In initiativeis going strong and this May, DC Comics is shining a light on one of the brightest minds in the entire DCU. The publisher has announcedMister Terrific: Year One, a six-issue miniseries by journalist Al Letson, Valentine De Landro, Edwing Galmon, Marissa Louise, and Lucas Gattoni.
Mister Terrific: Year Onelooks back on Michael Holt’s earliest days, from the loss of his wife and unborn son to selling Holt Industries to a ruthless billionaire. But Holt’s lowest moments put him on a path that will lead him to becomingthe Justice League’s greatest asset.

Before he was a hero, Michael was a self-made man who used his incredible mind to become one of the world’s foremost tech inventors (his ‘T-Spheres’ being his greatest invention). However, Holt’s picture-perfect life was shattered when he lost his pregnant wife, nearly driving Holt to suicide. However, Holt was stopped by the Spectre, who told him the story of Terry Sloane, the hero who served as the Justice Society’s Mister Terrific. Inspired by the Spectre’s story,Holt adopted the name and put his talents to use in the modern-day Justice Society and, as of last year, Justice League Unlimited.
The timing of this miniseries is no coincidence. Not only is Mister Terrific popping up everywhere during the DC All In initiative (like inChallengers of the Unknown), but he’s about to be prominently featured in the upcomingSupermanmovie, portrayed by Edi Gathegi. DC Comics is pushing this character hard at the moment, and with the possibility of more new readers than ever, it only makes good sense to revisit Mister Terrific’s origins. Holt’s origins aren’t as known as say, Batman or Superman’s, but this new series can show whythis Justice League member is such an engaging character.
