After August 08, 2025, Gfycat will be shutting down as a service in its entirety. If you’re a frequent Gfycat user, this means that any GIFs you uploaded or saved will be removed entirely when this happens.
Regardless of whether or not you’re a frequent user, the discontinuation of Gfycat means that we will be losing one of the biggest sources for GIFs on the internet. Luckily, there’s a wide range of alternatives available. Here are six of the best.

We’re starting off this list with GIPHY. If you’re looking for an alternative to Gfycat that has a range of largely similar features, then GIPHY is an excellent place to look.
GIPHY’s landing page features a whole host of different categories that you may sort through. You can, of course, find trending GIFs, but there are also popular artists, video clips, and news stories as well. This is a great way tofind a new Animated GIF for Your Wallpaper in Windows 10 and 11.

Just like Gfycat, you can sort through GIFs using the drop-down menus at the top of the screen. This gives you access to different categories such as animals, gaming, and more. There’s also a search bar that you can use to help you with anything specific that you’re looking for.
For another alternative to Gfycat that has many of the same features, Tenor is a great place to look. Tenor is a GIF hosting site that can be a little bare bones, but has a huge range of different GIFs to choose from. If you’re looking for reaction GIFs, then this is an excellent alternative to Gfycat.

Essentially, Tenor acts as one long, infinitely scrolling page. You can keep scrolling to find some of the most commonly used GIFs from the site, or you can search for GIFs and stickers using the search bar.
If you’re not sure what exactly you’re looking for, you can also see what trending searches are currently being looked for on the site, as well as find a wide range of reaction GIF categories that you can then choose from depending on your mood.

There’s not too much more to Tenor, but for an alternative to Gfycat that you can use to quickly and easily find and share reaction GIFs, Tenor is a great option.
3.ezgif.com
One of Gfycat’s most useful–although often overlooked–features is its GIF creator. This feature allowed you to take any URL with a video and convert it to a GIF. If this is the feature that you’re going to miss most with Gfycat’s discontinuation, then ezgif.com is a great alternative.
ezgif.com is an online GIF maker which allows you to not just convert videos into GIFs, but much more. Just like Gfycat, you can take a video URL to convert to a GIF, but with ezgif.com you can upload your own files as well.

From there, ezgif.com comes with a host of tools that you can use to adjust your end result. There are tools for rotation, cropping, reversing, and cutting videos among a hose of other options as well. Features like these are a great reason to create GIFs on your computer instead of using some ofthe best GIF creator apps for Android.
If you’ve ever used Gfycat to convert a video to a GIF, then ezgif.com is a good choice of alternative that is worth checking out.
Next up, we have Imgflip. If you’re looking for an online GIF hosting service with many of the same features as Gfycat, then Imgflip is a solid option to go with.
Much like Gfycat, Imgflip is first and foremost a GIF hosting service. There are plenty of different GIFs that you can find and share here, with a wide variety of sorting and filtering options as well.
You can easily find streams of reaction GIFs as well as GIFs about animals, sports, and gaming as well. You can sort these by how popular they are, and can even upvote or downvote the GIFs you see to help curate the stream for others.
What’s great about Imgflip is that it also contains a GIF creator where you may upload or use the URL of a video to create your own GIFs.
If you liked Gfycat because it allowed you to easily browse through a huge range of different GIFs, then GIFER is a great alternative to go with.
What makes GIFER great is how easy it is to discover new GIFs. There’s a search bar that you may use if you have something specific in mind, but if you’re only partially sure what you’re looking for, you can use the sidebar to choose from a wide range of categories.
Each of these categories has further subcategories, so it’s a super convenient way to find the perfect GIF for any occasion.
Finally, we have Imgur. One of Gfycat’s best features was how it allowed you to upload and save your own GIFs. For anybody running a blog or just trying to learnhow to add animated GIFs to Google Docs, this was a great way to embed GIFs without having to manage the hosting overhead yourself.
With Gfycat gone, the best alternative for uploading and hosting GIFs might just be Imgur. As you might imagine, Imgur is an online GIF and image hosting website that allows users to upload and share images for just about any purpose.
If you enjoyed browsing through Gfycat for GIFs, then you may be able to scratch a similar itch with Imgur as well. you’re able to view publicly uploaded images and GIFs using the site, and there’s a comment section that you can interact with others as well.
The experience isn’t really that similar to Gfycat’s, however. All in all, as an alternative to Gfycat, Imgur works well if you’re trying to host GIFs or images, but it may be worth looking elsewhere if you enjoyed using Gfycat for anything else.
Find the Perfect GIF for Any Occasion
If you’re a long-time fan of Gfycat, then it’s no doubt sad to see it go, but that doesn’t mean that there are no other options out there. As you can see, there are plenty of Gfycat alternatives that you can use to find great GIFs. Better yet, you can always make your own. All you need to know is where to look.
