Harvey Specter was all about loyalty inSuits, and that is why his relationship with Mike Ross worked so well despite all the issues they had throughout the show. While Harvey was initially depicted as a cold, heartless man who only cared about playing at the highest level, laterSuitsseasonsexplained why the character was like that.Harvey was always particularly concerned about loyaltyand never stabbing a friend in the back, which had to do with his past and how he had to hide his mom’s infidelity from his father.

Harvey obviously knew how to keep secrets when necessary, the biggest of which was Mike Ross’ fraud. To have his dream junior associate, Harvey was willing to break the law if meant giving Mike a chance. Unfortunately,Mike’s delicate position at the firm made him an easy targeteven forSuitscharactersthat one would consider “good guys.” Harvey was not surprised that Mike was eventually threatened and blackmailed due to his secret, but he was upset that his protégé did not come to him for help when it happened.

Harvey Remained Loyal To Mike Throughout Suits No Matter What

When Harvey found out Mike sold him out to Jessica amidst the Darby merger situation, the soon-to-be name partner cut all professional relationships with his apprentice. Harvey told Mike that they were done from now on, which seemed reasonable considering that Mike had just betrayed his mentor. However, what truly made Harvey angry is that Mike preferred to act on his own and attempt to fix things by himself rather than to come to him and ask for help. This is when Harvey lectures Mike about what loyalty really is in one of the best scenes of the show.

“If anyone comes at you with any threat at all, you come to me. I don’t care if it is the Queen of England, you come to me. You tell me. You tell me everything. That’s what goddamn loyalty is.”

Harvey had all the right to be mad at Mike, particularly because their entire relationship was built on mutual trust and believing that the other one was never going to reveal their secret. Harvey was putting his career on the line for Mike every day, meaning that Mike should have never even considered keeping other secrets from him. Granted,Mike was being threatened, but he should have known better than potentially backstabbing his only real friend at that firm.

Mike And Harvey Weren’t Always On The Same Page But Still Made For A Great Team

Mike learned a valuable lesson after the Darby merger fiasco, after which he understood that Harvey was always going to be in his corner no matter what. Once they patched things up,Harvey continued to watch out for his protégéand was ready to do whatever it took to protect him. In hindsight, it is easy to understand why Harvey Specter valued loyalty so much. Given how delicate of a secret he and Mike were keeping, their dynamic could only work if they absolutely trusted each other.
