Summary

A few months after a pilot was ordered by the network,Suits: LAhas finally landed a series order from NBC. As the mainline legal drama began climbing the charts on Netflix, NBCUniversal began exploring ways to expand the franchise, with a spinoff officially entering development in October 2023 with original creator Aaron Korsh returning as showrunner. Stephen Amell was later cast to leadtheSuits: LApilotalongside Bryan Greenberg, Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis and Troy Winbush. John Amos, Victoria Justice and Kevin Weisman.

Deadlinehas brought word that NBC has greenlit bothSuits: LAand the dramedyGrosse Pointe Garden Societyfor full series orders. Despite the series order confirmations, though, sources report thatthe network has not yet set a premiere date for either show, namely whether either will premiere during the 2024-2025 release schedules. Suits: LA’s Series Order Is Great News (With 1 Caveat)

Theconfirmation ofSuits: LAreceiving a series order comes shortly after NBC announced their schedule for the Fall 2024 — Winter 2025 release schedule, for whichthe legal drama spinoff was notably missing. Star Bryan Greenberg also recently acknowledged the release delay, indicating that he wasn’t prepared to talk about the show until the team “officially get greenlit”, while also praising his time on the show. While the series order is promising for those who wondered if it might not move forward, it does come with the interesting caveat regarding its release schedule.

Given only the pilot has been shot thus far, it could be explained by NBC that they simply didn’t have room on theirschedule forSuits: LAto slot into. This past year saw both the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA go on strike to fight for fair pay and job protection from A.I., which led many studios to shuffling to film as much as possible when the strikes lifted later in 2023. Consideringfilming also didn’t kick off for the pilot until late March/early April 2024, there was likely less time for NBC to decide both on the series order and release window.

7 Ways The Suits L.A. Spinoff Is Already Different From Suits

While much has yet to be revealed about Suits L.A., there are already some important differences between the spinoff and the original show.

Even without a premiere date set, though,Suits: LAhas a lot of promising factors riding on its shoulders. The original showcontinues to rank high on Netflix’s streaming charts, and with early reactions to the dailies for the pilot reportedly scoring very highly, the show may just find itself able to reach the same heights of its predecessor. Additionally, with more time for Korsh to work on the scripts with his writers room,Suits: LAcould better distance itself from the original legal drama while still delivering what longtime fans of the show expect from the franchise.
