10 Best KOTOR Characters Who Are Officially Star Wars Canon

Although Knights of the Old Republic itself is no longer Star Wars canon, some of the characters featured in the game have regained canon status.

10Darth Malak Was The Main Villain Of Knights Of The Old Republic

His Appearance In Canon Would Be A Step Towards Canon KOTOR

Known as one of Revan’s closest friends and confidants, Darth Malak fell to the dark side as a result of his role in the Mandalorian Wars. Following Revan in the ways of the Sith, Malak would go on to become Revan’s apprentice until his master was ripped away from him by the Jedi. They would eventually meet in conflict once again as a result of the events ofKnights of the Old Republic, with Darth Malak attempting to use an ancient weapon known as the Star Forge in order to rebuild the Sith Empire.

Being the main villain of the original game, Darth Malak’s story is not only deeply personal, but fleshed out as well. His conflict with Revan, the player character, shows the path that Revan could have gone down should they have continued down the path of the dark side. If he were to make an appearance in canon, it would likely be in a canonKOTOR.

9Bastila Shan Became The Love Of Revan’s Life

The Two Shared A Powerful Force Bond

Bastila Shanwas a Jedi Knight at the time ofKnights of the Old Republic, unique for a Force ability called Battle Meditation. Not only did she assist with Revan’s transition back to the Jedi, but she also proved herself to be susceptible to the pull of the dark side, as Darth Malak managed to make her fall. She was passionate for a Jedi with very clear opinions, going from an almost naive Jedi to a capable ally over the course of the game.

Despite the fact that Revan is a character influenced by player choice, the Revan canon toStar WarsLegendswas a man who would go on to fall in love with Bastila. The two would even have a child, with these events leading into Revan’s capture by the Sith Empire as seen inStar Wars: The Old Republic. She could be introduced toStar Warscanon at any point in her personal timeline, either during her training as a Jedi or long after.

8Canderous Ordo Is A Major Part Of Mandalorian History

Making Him Canon Could Make The Mask Of Mandalore Canon

Originally meeting Revan as a mercenary for hire, Canderous Ordo was a proud Mandalorian who fought during the Mandalorian Wars. Quick to violence, Canderous had more of a dark side leaning than many of the characters met throughoutKnights of the Old Republic. After the game is finished and Darth Malak has been defeated,Canderous would eventually go on to locate the Mask of Mandalore with Revan’s help, reclaiming it and taking the name Mandalore the Preserver as the new leader of the Mandalorians.

Because the Mask of Mandalore operates in a very similar manner to theDarksaberinStar Warscanon, it is possible that this part ofKnights of the Old Republicwill never become canon. If Canderous were to be introduced in canon at all, changes would need to be made either by involving the Darksaber in his story or by making the Mask of Mandalore canon in some regard. Regardless, no matter how fans see Canderous in the future, there is certain to be plenty of action and fighting.

Star Wars' Mandalorian Timeline & History Explained

As the greatest warriors in the Star Wars galaxy, Mandalorians have a rich and expanding history, and this is their full timeline in canon explained.

7Darth Sion Was Immortal Through The Dark Side Long Before Darth Sidious

He Was Already Referenced In The Ahsoka Series

Born long before the events of either of theKnights of the Old Republicgames, Darth Sion originally fought alongside the previous Sith Empire. He nearly met his end in battle, but his anger and resentment in the dark side was so powerful that death could not claim him.Darth Sion effectively became immortal as a result of this, continuing to carry the pain of living as the Lord of Pain.

Although Darth Sion has never personally been seen inStar Warscanon, he has actually been referenced in theAhsokaseries. The ship used byMorgan Elsbethin order to travel to Peridea is called theEye of Sion, a direct reference to the Sith Lord who was missing one of his eyes inStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II.With any luck, this not only means he is already canon to the series, but that fans will also be seeing him sometime soon.

6Darth Nihilus Was Capable Of Destruction On A Global Scale

A Statue Of The Sith Lord Was Located On Exegol

Also known as the Lord of Hunger, Darth Nihilus was afflicted with a terrible desire to consume Force energy as a result of the tragedy on Malachor V. After the detonation of the Mass Shadow Generator, Darth Nihilus was caught in the blast, only barely managing to survive. Now, as a dark lord of the Sith, Darth Nihilus is capable of consuming massive amounts of Force energy, able to annihilate entire planets in a matter of moments.

Seeing this kind of destruction in the modern canon would finally bring back a threat equal to or greater than that of the original Death Star. There would be tangible stakes, and even if he was brought back for a different storyline than that of the sequel game, he would still hopefully be a powerful threat. This is only made more important by the fact that Darth Nihilus has already been shown briefly in canon, with a statue of him appearing on the Sith planet of Exegol.

5Meetra Surik Cut Herself Off From The Force Entirely

Her History In The Mandalorian Wars Is Complicated And Compelling

Most easily recognizable as the protagonist ofKnights of the Old Republic II,Meetra Surik fought back against the Mandalorians during the Mandalorian Wars, going against her orders as a Jedi. She was the only person to not fall to the dark side as a result of this, going so far as to cut herself off from the Force entirely. It was Meetra who pulled the trigger on the Mass Shadow Generator, and it was her actions that resulted in the massive casualties on Malachor V.

Like some of the other characters introduced in these games, Meetra has actually already been referenced in canon. ThroughoutTheHigh Republicseries of novels and comics, her name is used as an exclamation. Though she does not make a physical appearance, her influence can still be felt years down the line.

4Visas Marr Was Once A Powerful Practitioner Of The Dark Side

She Was A Disciple Of Darth Nihilus, But Can Be Turned To The Light

Introduced as one of the companions inKnights of the Old Republic II,Visas Marr originally lived in the Miraluka colony on the planet Katarr. However, when Darth Nihilus came to the planet and consumed the Force energies of everyone living on the planet, Visas was the only person left alive. She was taken as his apprentice, learning the ways of the Sith from Darth Nihilus.

However, upon meeting Meetra Surik, Visas Marr was slowly swayed towards the path of the light. Eventually, she would completely defy Darth Nihilus and learn the ways of the Jedi from Meetra, even if in an unofficial capacity. While an appearance from Visas in canon may be tied to Darth Nihilus, because he is canon, there will always be a chance that she could show up in a futureStar Warsproject.

3Darth Traya Was A Sith Lord Hiding In Plain Sight

Her Philosophy Would Be Interesting To Tackle In Star Wars Canon

Pretending to be a feeble, old Jedi, Kreia appears as one of the first companions available inKnights of the Old Republic II.She is a bit odd for a Jedi, with a philosophy that glorifies pain and looking out for one’s self over others. It should come as no surprise to those who have interacted with the character thatKreia is actually the deadly Darth Traya in disguise, having turned to the dark side as a result of the tragedy on Malachor V.

Kreia is an interesting character to bring to canon not only because of her manipulations, but because of her unique philosophy. She was the one that brought the Sith Triumvirate together, including herself, Darth Sion, and Darth Nihilus. Kreia’s tactical mind would be well appreciated in canon, echoing the expertise of manipulators such as Darth Sidious.

2Juhani Is A Cathar Jedi Struggling Against The Dark Side’s Influence

Seeing Her In Canon Would Be Great For LGBT Representation

Starting her story under the tyrannical hold of the Mandalorians, Juhani decided to become a Jedi after her people were freed from slavery by the Jedi. However, during her training, she was tested, nearly falling to the dark side after being led to believe that she had killed her master.Revan found her like this and eventually coaxed her back to the light, then recruited her to assist in defeating Darth Malak and his Star Forge.

Like Bastila, Juhani is a romance option for Revan. However, she is only a romance option for a female Revan, something that was groundbreaking at the time the game was released in 2003. Juhani’s inclusion in canon would be another great step for representation, something that until recently has been significantly lacking in theStar Warsfranchise.

1Darth Revan Is One Of The Most Interesting Sith Ever

They Are Already Canon, But Have Only Been Mentioned

Being one of the most recognizable figures outside the official canon, Darth Revan was a fierce warrior. Renowned for their tactical mind during the Mandalorian Wars and considered one of the most powerful Jedi, Revan eventually fell to the dark side.Unable to take this, the Jedi would eventually brainwash them, leading Revan to once again fight against Darth Malak for the sake of the galaxy.

Although Revan has never made an official appearance inStar Warscanon, their name has been referenced in Adam Christopher’s novelShadow of the Sith.It was here that a group of Sith cultists mentioned Revan by name, though this is as far as their inclusion in canon goes. If theKnights of the Old Republicremake releases as canon, it is possible that Revan will once again be seen in all their former glory.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic tells the story of the Star Wars universe long before the Skywalker family altered the fate of the galaxy. The player assumes control of Revan, an amnesiac Force user who finds themselves thrown into the center of the ancient struggle between the Jedi and the Sith. An open-world RPG that allows the player to explore a galaxy of planets, KOTOR puts an emphasis on player choice: Revan must decide whether to save the galaxy, or conquer it.
