Strange New Worlds Can Tell The Origin Story Of Starfleet’s Greatest Engineer
“I’m an engineer, not a miracle worker.”
Star Trek: Strange New Worldsseason 3 is set six years before James Doohan’s Scotty becameChief Engineer of the USS Enterprise. This means thatSNWcan tell the story of how the young Montgomery Scott rose to become one of the greatest engineers in Starfleet history. In the exclusive clip screened during theStar TrekUniverse panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Scotty was seen manning the transporter room, as he often did duringStar Trek: The Original Series.
Star Trek’s Scotty is far more than the two-dimensional Scottish stereotypes and the oft-misappropriated “Beam me up Scotty” catchphrase.

However,Star Trek’s Scotty is far more than the two-dimensional Scottish stereotypes and the oft-misappropriated “Beam me up Scotty” catchphrase. He kept the USS Enterprise running for decades, and was promoted to captain of the groundbreaking Excelsior project. The younger Scotty will presumably be working under his Starfleet Academy mentor, Commander Pelia (Carol Kane), who returns as a recurring character. By depicting the early career of Scotty,Star Trek: Strange New Worldsseason 3 can finally add some depth toStar Trek’s most beloved Scottish character.
