Summary

Star Trek: Strange New Worldswould be the perfect place for anyStar TrekandDoctor Whocrossover to take place.Recently,Doctor Whoshowrunner Russell T Davies reiterated his desire to crossover withStar Trek, something he initially considered for one of David Tennant’s final specials in 2009. InDoctor Whoseason 14, episode 1, “Space Babies”, RTD even went as far as suggesting that the show takes place in theStar Trekuniverse by suggesting the TARDIS could “visit them someday”. However, it’s just as likely that the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) was just winding up his new companion.

Regardless of how fans square this bit of dialog, Russell T Davies is on-record that he wants aDoctor WhoandStar Trekcrossover, and he’s shown a preference forStar Trek: Strange New Worlds. In an interview withCollider, Davies professed his love for Anson Mount’s Captain Christopher Pike, so it seems likely that any crossover will happen onStrange New Worlds. Luckily for Davies, hailing frequencies are now open betweenStar TrekandDoctor Who, asRTD will be joining Alex Kurtzman for an “Intergalactic Friendship” panel at San Diego Comic Con, as revealed onInstagram:

10 Times Star Trek & Doctor Who Crossed Over

Doctor Who and Star Trek are TV’s two biggest sci-fi franchises, but they’re not arch-rivals, and regularly make affectionate nods to each other.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Is Perfect For A Doctor Who Crossover Episode

Strange New Worlds is no stranger to a high-concept crossover episode.

If aDoctor WhoandStar Trekcrossover is worth doing, it’s worth doing well, and that means Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor flirting with Spock on the starship Enterprise.

Strange New Worldsis the only choice for aStar TrekandDoctor Whocrossoverfor several reasons. Firstly, if the two biggest TV sci-fi franchises in the world are to finally crossover, the Doctor’s TARDIS has to materialize aboard the USS Enterprise.Strange New Worldsis the onlyStar Trekshow that can facilitate the meeting of the Doctor with classic characters like Spock (Ethan Peck) and Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding). If aDoctor WhoandStar Trekcrossover is worth doing, it’s worth doing well, and that means Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor flirting with Spock on the starship Enterprise.

TheStrange New Worldscastare no strangers to a high-concept crossover episode, either, following season 2’s “Those Old Scientists”, which crossed over with the animated series,Star Trek: Lower Decks. In aStar Trekshow that’s done a fairytale, an animated crossover, and a musical, aDoctor Whocrossover might not even be the weirdest ofStrange New Worlds' high-concept episodes. While it’s easy to select whichStar Trekshow should crossover withDoctor Who, the behind-the-scenes negotiations that would need to take place are another matter.

Between 2012 and 2013, IDW published an eight-issue limited-run comic book calledAssimilation², which paired up Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor with the characters fromStar Trek: The Next Generation.

Disney+ are yet to commission a third series ofDoctor Whofrom Russell T Davies and the BBC, so it would be highly unlikely that they would sign off on a crossover with a huge Paramount property likeStar Trek.
