Summary
AsThe Sims 4community continues to enjoy theLovestruckexpansion, some players are learning that the in-game dating app is a little too realistic. When it comes toapps like Tinder and Hinge, it’s become more and more common to encounter “catfish,” the colloquially accepted name for someone who either pretends to be a different person online or misrepresents what they look like in the real world. Catfish may be difficult enough to avoid for those currently in the dating sphere, but at least when it happens inThe Sims 4, it’s pretty funny.
Posted to Reddit by usergenericwhitefemale1, theSimsplayer shared their story of setting their character up on a date through Cupid’s Corner,Lovestruck’s dating app, only to find that the person who showed up was quite different from their online profile.

On the app,“Christin” is listed as being a Young Adult, yet when she showed up for the date, she was classified as being an “Elder.“This isn’t the only instance of a Sim being catfished: Another player notes how their Sim went on a date with someone whose muscular physique wasn’t represented in their profile at all.
Is The Sims 4 Lovestruck worth buying?
The Sims 4 Lovestruck is one of the most-anticipated expansion packs ever, but a pre-release base game update caused lots of issues for fans. When the pack actually released a day later, players immediately had mixed opinions. While some of the new gameplay and features were praised, lots of what’s newly available is buggy and incomplete. This is becoming pretty normal for Sims 4 packs (unfortunately), and it was one of the community’s biggest concerns from the pack’s announcement. Did you pick up The Sims 4 Lovestruck and have you encountered any issues or bugs with it so far?
Can You Avoid Catfish In The Sims?
Just Like In Real Life, It Can Be Tough
While some may find it frustrating that their Sim could be catfished by using Cupid’s Corner, the discovery of the twist has largely been well-received by the community. Many are praising it as a fun hidden mechanic that better reflects the reality of using dating apps. Given howThe Simsis a game often designed toprovide players with as much drama as possible, it doesn’t take much to envision players running with the catfishing concept.
A fun scenario could be tocreate a Sim and use it to trick catfishes into exposing their real identity, similar to the MTV seriesCatfish. While it could be difficult to manufacture such a situation, it could certainly yield some memorable interactions as the catfish is caught out and confronted for lying on their Cupid’s Corner profile. Alternatively, players could make their own Sim a catfish and deceive other Sims looking to set up a quick date.

Lovestruckhas already provento be a major hit forThe Sims 4as the expansion’s emphasis on dating and romance has delivered what the community has requested for years. The addition of Cupid’s Corner has already fundamentally changed how Sims organize dates;perhaps the best part of the mechanic is that it even includes saved characters from players' galleries, meaning all sorts of strangers can show up on the app. With theexistence ofThe Sims 5still up in the air, it’s good to know that the community still has something to enjoy.
