Summary
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Wonder Woman #11!Shazamshows the DC Universe’s speedsters what real speed is in an impressive display of his godly powers. When Amanda Waller sends oneof her greatest weapons after the most powerful magic heroes, the Earth’s Mightiest Mortal reveals his top speed and how it rivals the members of the Flash Family.
InWonder Woman #11by Tom King and Tony S. Daniel, Diana and other magic heroes are holed up at the Watergate Hotelwhen one of Waller’s Amazoscomes and attacks the team. The Captain leads the attack on the robot, which uses Constantine’s stolen powers to transport Shazam to France, where he crashes into the Eiffel Tower.

The battle goes by fast as the Amazo takes out the team’s most powerful heroes. Thankfully, it isn’t long before the Captain returns. Billy mentions that he would have been back even sooner, but Shazam had to repair the Eiffel Tower.
Shazam Travels From France to Washington in a Heartbeat
In a bid to wrest control of the DC Universe back from metahumans, Waller spent months working in the shadows and setting the stage for her eventual power grab. After gaining more power than ever as the head of the Bureau of Sovereignty, Waller acquired a few more assets to help see her vision through. Not only did she take control of Batman’s ultimate contingency Failsafe, but she also acquired several Amazos Bruce’s backup personality Zur-En-Arrh purchased when he was inhabiting Failsafe’s body.Waller had Failsafe reprogram these Amazosand turned them into her personal attack squad, Task Force VII.
Shazam being fast enough to fly from France to Washington in an instant shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. He possesses the speed of Mercury and thanks to it, he was able to repair the Eiffel Tower, and then cross nearly 4000 miles of ocean to get back before the fight was over. That’s all in a day’s work for a speedster, sure, but it’s interesting to see that Billy’s god-level alter ego can be just as fast as any Flash. He might not be a speedster, butShazam can certainly give them a run for their money.

Shazam is the Flash’s Most Underrated Rival
It’s funny because both Shazam and Flash are often considered rivals against Superman for different reasons, but few ever compare Billy to the Scarlet Speedster. Flash has had numerous races against Superman to prove that there’s only one true Fastest Man Alive. But Shazam’s latest feat proves that he could easily be just as good a rival to the Flash. Maybe the Speed Force will win out (as it usually does), but it could be interesting to see how the Flash or any speedster does in a footrace against the incredibly swiftShazam.
