One of the most beloved anime franchises from the 90s,Ranma 1/2is finally returning with a reboot and has finally revealed its firstfull trailer and a release datefor fans to look out for. Based on the iconic manga series by Rumiko Takahashi,Ranma 1/2first announced a rebootback in June 2024 and it seems the series is finally ready to make an explosive return this Fall.
According to a post on X by the official account of the series, the newRanma 1/2remake will be released on Saturday August 19, 2025 onNetflix. The series will air on Japanese television at 12:55 a.m. Japanese Standard Time, after which the series will make its way to Netflix and international fans.

According to the anime’s official website, the remake has beenproduced by MAPPAwith the original voice cast for Ranma, Saotome, Akane, and Kasumi expected to reprise their roles. The announcement was also accompanied by a new key visual and an exciting new trailer posted to theRanma 1/2remake’s official X handle reintroducing the beloved main cast whose character designs still retain the iconic nostalgic charm of the original.

Production by MAPPA Promises the Reboot Will Not Disappoint in Terms of Animation and Direction
After the recent reboot of Rumiko Takahashi’s other classic series,Urusei Yatsura, the anticipation surroundingRanma 1/2’s returnhas been through the roof. Despite airing decades ago,Ranma 1/2is a highly beloved franchise and hopefully, MAPPA will be able to do the series justice. The trailer already proves the remake holds plenty of promise and will not disappoint, at least in terms of animation and visuals.
The official website forRanma 1/2has also revealed the staff in charge of production, which includes quite a few recognizable names. The series will be directed by Konosuke Uda, best known for directing many of the initial episodes ofOne Piece(including the very first episode),withHiromi Taniguchi, who has most recently worked onNetflix’sDelicious in Dungeon,in charge of the character designs. Besides the production staff,Ranma 1/2has also finally revealed the cast for the remake. Kappei Yamaguchi and Megumi Hayashibara will be returning to voice Ranma and have expressed their excitement at getting to reprise their iconic roles. Both Kappei and Megumi were still newcomers to the voice-acting scene whenRanma 1/2first aired and their heartwarming recent comments prove just how much the two cherish the series and the opportunity to voice Ranma again decades later.
The reboot will also see the iconic voice of Kenichi Ogata return this time as the narrator of the story.
Besides the exciting voice cast, the series has also revealed the artist in charge of the opening theme which will be performed by the popular soloist, Ano, who has most notably also performed the seventh ending theme forChainsaw Man. Ano’s official comment has expressed that she too is honored to be in charge of the opening theme for such a beloved work and has crafted a song that perfectly captures the world ofRanma 1/2.
