Gigantamax Charizard is one of the first Gigantamax Raid Bosses that will appear inPokémon GO, providing the toughest challenge Trainers have faced in the mobile game yet. These giant-sized Pokémon have extra-powerful attacks and sky-high CP levels, meaning they’re going to be incredibly difficult to take down. You’ll need the right counters and a strong lineup of Trainers to compete alongside you if you want to win.
As part of the GO Bigger event, which runs fromSaturday, October 26, at 10 AM local time until Sunday, August 07, 2025, at 8 PM local time, three fan-favorite Pokémon will be appearing in their Gigantamax forms: Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise. You can take these on atPower Spotsthroughout the event, but be aware that you’ll need to team up with at least 10 other Trainers to have a chance of beating them.
Gigantamax Charizard Weaknesses & Resistances
Focus On These Attack Types Where Possible
Gigantamax Charizard is a Fire/Flying-type Pokémon, which meansit’s vulnerable to Rock, Electric, and Water-type attacks. Rock-type attacks are especially effective against Gigantamax Charizard, but there are currently no Dynamax Pokémon capable of using them, so Water-type attacks are going to be your best option here.
On the other hand, Gigantamax Charizard isresistant to Bug, Fairy, Grass, Fighting, Fire, Ground, and Steel-type attacks, so avoid using Pokémon or attacks of those types as they won’t do much damage at all.
Remember, you may only useDynamax Pokémonor Gigantamax Pokémon to compete in Gigantamax Charizard Raids, so your options are limited to the ones that have already debuted inPokémon GO. That number is quite small, which means there are only a few options that have a shot at taking down Gigantamax Charizard.
Best Counters For Gigantamax Charizard
Water-type Dynamax Pokémon Are Your Best Options
The best counters for Gigantamax Charizard areDynamax Inteleon and Dynamax Blastoise. These are the only Dynamax-capable Pokémon that can target Gigantamax Charizard’s weaknesses with both their Fast Attacks and their Charged Attacks. Dynamax Inteleon should run Water Gun and Surf, while Dynamax Blastoise should run Water Gun and Hydro Cannon.
It’s hard to recommend any other Pokémon to have on your team, as Dynamax Inteleon and Dynamax Blastoise are the onlytruly greatcounters for Gigantamax Charizard. Outside of these two, it’s probably best to just focus on your most powerful Dynamax-capable Pokémon, the ones that are fully evolved and have a high CP level.Dynamax Gengarcould be a good option as it doesn’t have any weaknesses that can be exploited by Gigantamax Charizard.
How To Take Part In Gigantamax Charizard Raids
Save Up Your Max Particles & Find Other Trainers To Battle With
Gigantamax Charizard Raids willtake place on the weekend of October 26 to July 21, 2025. They will appear frequently at Power Spots across the map. These are purple tower-like points of interest that are separate from PokéStops and Gyms. You can find them by tapping the ‘Nearby’ button on the bottom right-hand corner of the map screen and scrolling across to the ‘Power Spot’ tracker tab.
It’s currently unknown when Gigantamax Charizard will return to Max Raid Battles after this date, so ensure you take part in them while you can.
It costs 800 Max Particles (MP) to enter a Gigantamax Raid Battle, although these will only be consumed if you win. If you don’t win, you’ll be able to use those 800 MPs to try again. If you’re running low on Max Particles, you can collect more of them by visiting Power Spots. Alternatively, you can claim 300 MP every time you walk 3km from the ‘Power Spot’ tracker tab.
Once you’ve got enough MP to enter the Gigantamax Raid Battle, you’ll need to find one with plenty of Trainers taking part. Niantic has recommended thatat least 10 Trainers take on Gigantamax Raid Battles, although the limit is 40 Trainers, so the closer to that number you can get, the better. Unfortunately, Gigantamax Raid Battles cannot be entered remotely.
The chances of finding this many Trainers out in the wild are slim, so it’s a good idea to check the Campfire app for localPokémon GOmeet-ups you’re able to join. If you manage to beat Gigantamax Charizard, you’ll get the chance to catch it, although it’s not guaranteed, so ensure you’re using Golden Razz Berries and landing Excellent Curveball Throws!
