One Pieceepisode #1120 was a somewhat lackluster conclusion to the Levely flashback in terms of presentation, but it still did a good job of setting things up forepisode #1121and beyond. The interlude from Egghead Island is likely coming to a close soon, and while not every episode has been great to watch, it’s still sure to end on a high note.

One Pieceepisode #1120 was the grand finale to the Levely flashback, showing how Sabo escaped to Lulusia and how Vivi and Wapol ended up in Morgans’ care. Episode #1120 also delved a little further into the actions of Imu, the Five Elders, and the other people in their general circle, and from that,One Pieceepisode #1120 ended on potentially one of the biggest reveals in the entire series. There was a lot of setup for future plot points, and hopefully, it won’t be too long before they’re all properly followed up on.

What Happened In One Piece Episode 1120?

Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Katsumi Tokoro

One Pieceepisode #1120, “The World Is Shaken! The Ruler’s Judgment and the Five Elders' Actions!,” continued whereOne Pieceepisode #1119left off with Sabo and Vivi’s respective escapes from Mary Geoise, with Sabo disguising himself as a guard to sneak onto a ship and Vivi and Wapol getting in touch with Morgans to provide them sanctuary. Meanwhile, as the Five Elders discussed Sabo’s escape and Vivi’s disappearance, Imu told them to use something called the “Mother Flame” on Lulusia, andImu’s reasoning for wanting to destroy Lulusia was simply because it was close by.

Following the end of the Levely and the destruction of Lulusia, the world, as showcased in previous chapters, fell into a state of chaos, with numerous kingdoms around the globe going through rebellions as their citizens were inspired by Sabo’s alleged murder of Cobra to rise against their oppressors. The then-recent disbandment of the Seven Warlords left the Marines strapped for manpower, but the Seraphim were designed to make up for that, and sure enough,Akainu had the Seraphim clones of Crocodile, Moria, and Doflamingosent out to deal with various problems around the world.

A close-up of Figarland Garling

As Sabo finished relaying his story to Dragon and Ivankov, they remarked on two points about Sabo’s story: first,Imu’s true identitymight beNerona Imu,one of the founders of the World Government, who could have been made immortal by the power of the Op-Op Fruit, and second, whatever was used to destroy Lulusia was either something invented by Vegapunk or the final ancient weapon, Uranus. Everything was portrayed as purely hypothetical, of course, and the episode ended with the reveal that Donquixote Myosgard was executed by Saint Figarland Garling, the leader of the Holy Knights.

Why One Piece’s New Villain Is Such A Big Deal

Figarland Garling will surely be a major villain in the final saga, but that’s not the only reason he’s a big deal. InOne Piece Film: Red, the Five Elders, under the assumption that Uta was Shanks’ biological daughter, questioned if they could oppose her when she was part of the Figarland family, and the guidebook revealed that Shanks was adopted by Roger in the aftermath of God Valley. Therefore, if Garling is a member of the Figarland family with a connection to God Valley, thenFigarland Garling is a big deal because he’s likely Shanks’ biological father.

WhileOne Piece Film: Redis non-canon, it has been previously stated that everything revealed about Shanks and his crew is.

Shanks being Garling’s son could also explain his mysterious meeting with the Five Elders during the Levely. It’s always been unclear how Shanks got into Mary Geoise and why the Five Elders would be willing to speak with him, but now, it can be assumed thatShanks’ meeting with the Five Elders was possible because he’s secretly a Celestial Dragon. A twist like that could completely change what little is known about Shanks’ character, and with any luck, it won’t be long before it’s followed up on.

One Piece’s Poor Pacing Detracts From An Otherwise Good Episode

While the story beats inOne Pieceepisode #1120 were all great to watch play out,One Pieceepisode #1120 was another episode filled with excessive padding and middling expansions on what was presented in canon, so it ended up being rather tedious to sit through, especially in the first half. In terms of presentation, it was probably the weakest episode ofOne Piecein a while, but things will hopefully pick up in that department after the break.

Be sure to watchOne Pieceepisode #1121when it releases on Saturday, October 5.
