Deviants are companion creatures you can summon inOnce Human, with theButterfly’s Emissarybeing one of the first you befriend during the game’s tutorial. Successfully pairing with this alien being will let you call upon it in battle to protect your character and attack enemies. However, with very little instruction provided, it can be hard to determine what you need to do to summon the Butterfly early in your adventures.
Four types of Deviants exist inOnce Human’s F2P open-world- Combat types, Territory types, Gadget types, and Furniture types. The Butterfly falls under the first category, being suitable for combat during the beginning stages of the game. Since the Butterfly is the first Deviant you get, it is very easy to use compared to other creatures you’ll interact with in the future.

How To Summon The Butterfly Deviant In Once Human
Link To The Cradle And Use The Right Input
During the tutorial,Once Humanwill teach you how tolink the Butterfly’s Emissary to the Cradle, a device used to connect to Deviants you meet throughout your adventures. Similar to recruitingmounts inArk: Survival Ascended, you have to interact with the Deviant you want to recruit to convince it to become friendly. For the Butterfly, you are taught todeposit it in the Cradle first, which can be seen as a glass container.
The Cradle shows up once you’ve chosen a territory at the start of the game and is also known as the Isolated Securement Unit seen in the tutorial.

When you have the Butterfly in hand, interact with the Cradle to bring up the sync option seen next to the Deviant’s stats. Choosing this prompt puts the Butterfly in your character’s backpack, allowing you to summon the creature at will from that point forward. To summon the Butterfly, press the"E"key on PC to bring up the Deviant companion menuthat can issue commands to the alien.
You have two options from the Deviant command menu, either to direct the Butterfly toAuto Attackorselect a Designated Target. Both options summon the Butterfly, causing it to perform different actions depending on which one you picked. Auto Attack causes the Butterfly to float near you and attack any enemy that gets close, while Designated Target sends it toward a spot you point to in the world to defend the area.
Deviants are similar to creatures likePals inPalworld, who follow alongside your character to attack targets hostile towards you. However, keep in mind thatOnce Humandoes not let you keep Deviants summoned outside your backpack for an unlimited time.
Using any of these summon commands uses Deviant Power, a limited resource your character has access to. While you start at 100 Deviant Power, repeated actions of the Butterfly will quickly drain this resource if you aren’t careful. Once you learn how to summon theButterfly’s EmissaryinOnce Human, be prepared to use it sparingly to conserve your overall Deviant Power.
