I’ve been having a lot of fun keeping up TikTok streaks with my friends and seeing how high the number can go. However, some people have made claims that you can earn money using TikTok streaks, which is simply not true. As such, here’s what a TikTok streak is, and the false information people are spreading around the app.

What Is a TikTok Streak?

TikTok streaks are a fun little incentive to get people to use the messenger feature built into the app. When you and your friend send a message to one another within 24 hours, you earn a streak point. The streak ends when either of you fails to message the other, at which point the counter resets back to zero.

The feature works similarly to Snapchat streaks. While you may’t recover a broken TikTok streak, you canrecover a Snapchat streak.

To see if you’re currently on a streak on TikTok, head over to your inbox and look at the DMs you’ve been sending your friends. You’ll know if you’re currently on a TikTok streak if you see a little flame icon next to your friend’s name.

The icon won’t appear until you get a three-day streak going with your friend, so if you don’t see the flame, make sure you and your friend are sending at least one message every day.

How Do You Maintain a Streak on TikTok?

So you and your friend have been sending messages daily and you’ve now got a streak going. Now comes the hard part: maintaining it.

To see if your streak is safe or not, look at the little flame icon next to your contact’s name. If it’s a gray flame, it means that one of you hasn’t sent anything for that day. Once the day passes, any streaks marked with a gray flame will reset back to zero.

You can’t save a TikTok streak by yourself; your friend also needs to send you something to keep the streak going. Give them a friendly nudge to send you something before the streak ends!

Speaking of sending things, you don’t need to send anything in particular to keep the streak going. you may type a message, send a sticker, post an emoji, or even share a video to keep that flame lit.

My friends and I don’t use the messaging app to speak with one another, but we have high streaks simply because we share videos with one another using the share button. Best of all, when you go to share a video with a friend, you can see your current streak next to their name so you know who to send them to.

Can You Get Rewards for Maintaining a Streak?

If you’ve dug around TikTok for news or information about streaks, you’ve likely come across videos claiming that you can get paid for them. Details vary between each rumor, but in general, people will claim that TikTok will pay you a sum of money if you manage to achieve a 100-day-long streak on the app.

Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Turns out, there’s a good reason for that; it isn’t true in the slightest. TikTok will not pay you no matter how high of a streak you get.

It’s not quite aTikTok scam, because you don’t lose anything by getting a high streak. It was likely a devious rumor set up by someone to get views on their videos. The company itself confirmed that it’s not paying anyone toForbes.

So, bad news; you won’t get a hefty paycheck simply for sharing capybara videos over TikTok. However, it’s still a fun way to keep connected with your friends and see how high you can get the streak going.
