Horikoshi’s comment can be taken as a hint about howMy Hero Academia’s finale will be handled by the anime, whichmay receive one more cour after season 7 to adapt the rest of the manga instead of a movieas fans have speculated. Despite the running trend established by series likeDemon SlayerandJujutsu Kaisen, My Hero Academiamay give its final volume a dedicated cour instead of a feature film, allowing it to be adapted more faithfully.

Fans have been long discussing whether season 7 will truly be able to cover the rest of the manga and Horikoshi’s answer in the latest interview could be the very first clue. While the comment alone arguably isn’t the strongest of proof,My Hero Academia’slatest opening themealso supports the idea that season 7 may not be the last one. Theopening theme for season 7 cour 2 hints the season could end with All For One’s defeatat the end of volume 40 of the manga, leaving a whole volume up for grabs for a new season.

Granted, there has yet to be any indication or announcement of the anime getting a new season, but it is worth noting thatseason 7 also has not been marketed as the final seasonof the series. It is possible thatMy Hero Academiacould go down the same path asAttack on Titanand adapt the remainder of the manga as a part of season 7. Regardless of how the anime is structured in the end, hopefully, the producers will adhere to Horikoshi’s wishes instead of crammingMy Hero Academia’s spectacular final battle and epilogue into a movie.
