Ghost Rider: Robbie Reyes Special#1 Variant Cover
J. Gonzo’s addition toMarvel Comics' stacked roster of artistic talentsis worth celebrating, as he is considered a rising star in the industry, The artist previously flexed his calavera-inspired style in the comic community last year, with four variant covers for IDW’sTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures - Halloween Special. Now, Gonzo makes the perfect Marvel debut withGhost Rider: Robbie Reyes Special#1, delivering a natural elaboration on the character’s iconic design in his proprietary take on a classic Mexican style.
Roberto “Robbie” Reyes first debuted inAll-New Ghost Rider #1by Felipe Smith and Tradd Moore as a Latinx street racer from Los Ángeles and the newest addition to the hellfire-imbued Spirits of Vengeance. When Robbie first appeared, he donned a noticeably different look than his fellow Ghost Riders, ditching the motorcycle for a 1969 Dodge Charger (AKAthe Hell Charger) and replacing the flaming skull with a sleeker skull-like mask that shows off some terrifyingly fleshy teeth. The Ghost Rider’s Spirit of Vengeance even had a fresh rework that better fit the new character’s backstory.

First Turtles, Now Ghost Rider – What’s Next For J. Gonzo?
If there is any character in Marvel Comics that can accentuate J. Gonzo’s unique style, the Robbie Reyes incarnation of Ghost Rider.
Where most Ghost Riders are imbued with demonic or divine energies to summon their hellish powers, Robbie’s abilities come from the spirit of his deceased devil-worshipping uncle, Elias Morrow. Following the satanic serial killer’s gruesome death, his spirit was bound to the Hell Charger before it was passed on tothe future Ghost Rider. After Robbie was shot dead by super-drug dealers while trying to protect his younger brother Gabe, Morrow’s spirit entered the young street racer’s body officially transforming him into anAll-New Ghost Rider.

Hopefully moving forward,J. Gonzo can continue to grow as an artist in collaboration with Marvel Comics.Just like Robbie Reyes was a decade ago, Gonzo is fresh to the scene, but has the style and skill which would easilt allow him to illustrate an entire comic series one day if he wishes. Robbie’s comics tend to vary heavily in their art style, reflecting the colorful street-punk graffiti often associated with L.A. If there is any character in Marvel Comics that can accentuate J.
