ChatGPT can now do more than answer questions and create images. OpenAI is rolling out a new feature that allows users to schedule reminders and to-do items right from the ChatGPT window—and it’s only the beginning.
ChatGPT’s New “Tasks” Feature Is Rolling Out to Paying Users Now
OpenAI’s new “tasks” beta feature is available to anyone with a ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Pro subscription and enables users to basically ask ChatGPT to do something at a later date.
For example, setting a reminder or to-do is a quick process. You can set a one-time request like “remind me when my passport expires in six months” or something recurring like “provide a weather report every day at 6:30 a.m.” After setting it, you’ll receive a notification on whatever platform you’ve enabled notifications on.

To use ChatGPT’s tasks, make sure you’ve selected “4o with tasks” in the ChatGPT model picker. ChatGPT can also suggest tasks based on conversations that the user can accept or reject.
All tasks can be managed in the usual chat or through the tasks section, which is only available online. Just to note, a maximum of ten active tasks can run simultaneously, at least at the time of writing.
AI Agents Are the Next Step For AI Chatbots
OpenAI isn’t planning to stop with the Tasks feature. In late 2024,Bloombergreported that ChatGPT’s new AI agents would launch in January 2025. Codenamed “Operator,” they will use artificial intelligence to take actions on your behalf, such as writing code or booking travel.
Furthermore, CEO Sam Altmanspelled out his 2025 vision for OpenAI, saying that 2025 may see the first AI agents joining the workforce and “materially change the output of companies.” This is on the heels ofOpenAI becoming a for-profit company.
December saw a slate of new announcements from OpenAI, including the Soragenerator that can create a video with just a text prompt.
