Monster Hunter Wildshas a large roster of monsters Large and Small, giving you a wide ecology of creatures to study and hunt in various habitats. Each monster you encounter has varying levels of difficulty, from incredibly fragile Endemic life to massive beasts capable of great destruction. The requirements to face each monster in the game is different, as you must reach certain parts of the story to meet them.
Unless you are responding to an S.O.S. inMonster Hunter Wilds' online multiplayer, most of the monsters you discover will be through the main story. During each Chapter of both the Low-Rank and High-Rank story, you’ll face off against new monsters threatening the ecosystem of various regions.You unlock Quests for monsters throughout the storyonce you encounter them for the first time.

Monsters can be broken down into two categories - Large and Small. Endemic life are additional tiny creatures that can be found throughout different maps, but"monsters"are defined as any creature that is large enough to impact an ecosystem. This can range from the Small Ceratonoth herds you find in the Windward Plains to the massiveAlpha Doshaguma inMonster Hunter Wildsyou can find in the same area.
Monster Hunter Wilds: How To Get All Hunter Symbols
Hunter Symbols are rare materials you need to farm in Monster Hunter Wilds to get some of the strongest gear, but these items can be hard to find.
The tables below outline the 29 Large Monsters and 18 Small Monsters in the game, including where you can find them, how you unlock them in the story, and their overall difficulty rating in the Assignment or Optional quests featuring them as a single monster to hunt:

An eel-like monster that burrows through sand, creating quicksand traps to ensnare their prey.

Apex Predator of the Scarlet Forest, a Leviathan aquatic creature that appears during Downpour weather only.

Chapter 2 -“Toward Fervent Fields”
A bidepal mosquito-like creature covered in oil, using two deadly stingers on its tail and mouth to inject gas into the ground to make it explode.

A Flying Wyvern, theRey Dau inMonster Hunter Wildsis an Apex Predator of the Windward Plains that controls Thunder for powerful electric attacks.

Chapter 2 -“Hopes of Home”
Another spider-like creature with powerful armored claws used to inject Poison into its enemies. It is usually surrounded by its small Hatchlings.

Flying Leviathans who float in the air with long, barbed tails. These monsters use incredible flexibility to fly and stay mobile.

Chapter 2 -“Long-Forgotten Flame”
Aggressive Fanged Beasts who use Blast damage to hurl exploding rocks and transform their bodies to create huge bursts of magma.
The Apex Predator of the Oilwell Basin, an octapus-like monster covered in oil that covers itself in fire to attack enemies.

Ruins of Wyveria
Chapter 3 -“The Faithful Keepers”
A stronger version of the normal Doshaguma, with new attacks and abilities.
An iconic Winged Wyvern that has poisonous claws and can breathe balls of fire to decimate prey and enemies alike.

Chapter 3 -“Full Circle”
A nimble Fanged Beast that uses Dragon elemental damage to aggressively attack anything that provokes it.
A Cephalopod with multiple tentacles that launches bladed projectiles from its appendages.

Chapter 3 -“Broken Chains”
A massive Winged Wyvern that uses chain-like limbs to gather energy before releasing it through devastating attacks.
Chapter 3 -“Monster Hunter”
The final boss of the Low-Rank story. A huge Winged Wyvern capable of summoning Ice and Fire simultaneously.
With the defeat ofZoh Shia inMonster Hunter Wilds,the remaining Large-sized monsters you discover are considered High-Rank. Up until this point, you were facing the Low-Rank versions of many creatures, but as you beat Chapter 3, you unlock stronger versions of familiar faces. While you still progress normally to unlock new foes, they have a much higher difficulty than the ones that came before.
High-Rank monsters require you to be a certain Hunter Rankto encounter them. For example, the High-Rank (or Tempered) version of the Lala Barian requires you to be Hunter Rank 10 before you can face it during a quest.

Ceratonoth (Male)
Large, herding creatures that use a large fin to channel lightning strikes and protect its herd.
Ceratonoth (Female)
Smaller, non-spined Ceratonoths that follow a single male in large groups.
Dalthydon
Herbivores that live in herds, using cranial plates to fend for themselves. These creatures are sometimes kept as livestock.
Bulaqchi
Mosquito-like creatures who use long needle-like mouths to inject dissolving fluids into prey to make digesting it easier.
Gajios
Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest
Leviathans with large snouts that live near water. These creatures usually remain underwater unless they are disturbed.
Baunos
Winged Wyverns that fly high in the air, searching below for prey while using their feathers to create screeching sounds.
Talioth
Pack creatures in large numbers who scour the deserts of the Windward Plains to hunt for food.
Gelidron
Flat, amphibious creatures found throughout the Oilwell Basin. These creatures are covered in slime that prevents them from being burned.
Vespoid
Flying insects with paralyzing poison distributed through sharp stingers on their abdomen.
Conga
Smaller versions of Congalaga who usually live with the Large monster, using similar attacks to hunt as a group.
Nerscylla Hatchling
Iceshard Cliffs
A smaller version of a Nerscylla, without any armor and usually spawning in large groups in a Nerscylla’s web lair.
Comaqchi
Large insects who use their stingers to inject Sleep poison into their prey.
Rafma
Large, ram-like creatures who store Thunder energy into their horns, which they use to strike or establish dominance in a herd.
Harpios
Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin
Winged Wyverns who have a long, sharp horn on their head. While never attacking hunters, their parts can be turned into excellent Pierce projectiles.
Kranodath
Predators that hunt in the Oilwell Basin, using large, exposed skulls to hammer at prey until it is soft enough to eat.
Priagill
Large fish with sharp fins that glow with beautiful scales in the waters of the Scarlet Forest.
Porkeplume
Birds who live in herds and puff out large collections of spines near their neck if threatened.
Guardian Seikret
Artifical Wyverns that are similar to the normal Seikret your hunter rides. However, these creatures are aggressive and will attack if provoked.
Blango
Smaller versions of Blangonga, Fanged Beasts who work in packs to eliminate threats to their territory.
Smaller monsters do not have Tempered versions you’re able to hunt down during quests, but many can be killed or captured in larger numbers to satisfy specific mission demands. Hunting any of the monsters in their habitats inMonster Hunter Wildswill yield different awards, but only if you meet the right requirements and succeed on quests despite their occassional difficulty.
