Summary

Marvel’s ongoingBlood Huntevent has recently introduced theBlood Hunters, a brand new all-women-led monster-hunting team that could star alongsideBladethe Vampire Hunter in a future MCU installment. The MCU’sBladefilm, starring Mahershala Ali, has had very little information released about its status since its first reveal atSan Diego Comic-Conin 2019, leaving fans completely in the dark for the last five years. Maybe, however, this year’s San Diego Comic-Con will finally reveal the film’s status alongside a hopeful mention of Marvel’s current vampire-hunting squad.

The team officially debuted earlier this year in theBlood Huntersanthology series, part of theBlood Huntevent. It is an all-star lineup of impeccable power that hopefully will give more prominent attention to its team members. The group had their official introduction in the four-part story “Once More Into the Darkness,”by Erica Schultz and Bernard Chang.

However, this crew won’t just be a one-and-one write-off, becauseMarvel has already confirmed another miniseries coming later this October. Coming from the creative team ofErica Schultz and Robert Gill, theBlood Huntersminiseries follows the heroes as they clean up the leftover mess after the events ofBlood Hunt. The first issues will see the team contend witha vampirized Miles Morales, while Marvel recently revealed that in the third issue the team will encounter the vampire super-team,the Bloodcoven.

Blade’s Ideal MCU Nemesis Is [SPOILER], Not Dracula (& Blood Hunt’s Huge Twist Proves It)

A huge plot twist in Blood Hunt #4 proves that while Dracula is Blade’s biggest foe, there is actually another vampire that is an even better villain.

Marvel’s Fierce Females Deserve a Chance to Shine

It’s About Time for Marvel to Uplift More Women

Consisting of Dagger, White Widow, Elsa Bloodstone, and Hallows’ Eve,the Blood Hunters all share a unifying thread that extends beyond their in-universe circumstances: obscurity. It’s no secret that women in comics are often sidelined for their male counterparts’ stories, but these women in particular seem to have been doomed to a life of miniseries and guest appearances. While Marvel has been hesitant to embrace their individual potential, that doesn’t take away from how much fun each of them brings to their comics.

Elsa Bloodstone is canonically the world’s greatest monster hunter and has been killing monsters and taking names since 2000.

Dagger is an avatar of the Lightforce, which infuses her with curse-cleansing powers, but she is almost always bound to Cloak. White Widow is a master assassin trained to replace Natasha Romanoff, but remains in her adoptive sister’s shadow. Elsa Bloodstone is canonically the world’s greatest monster hunter and has been killing monsters and taking names since 2000, yet her only solo series wasa short-livedTomb Raider-inspired cash grab. And Hallows’ Eve, until Madelyne Pryor gifted her a bottomless bag of masks that imbue her with powers reflective of the masks’ appearance, has only ever been Ben Reilly’s girlfriend.

Some Members are Already MCU Legends

While the Blood Hunters have excellent potential moving forward with their confirmed continuance of comic releases, they could have an even greater impact in the MCU with what could beMarvel’s second R-Rated film afterDeadpool & Wolverine. The best part is that most of these women are already in the MCU.Elsa Bloodstone’s MCU debutwas in the Disney+ streaming specialWerewolf by Night, and Yelena Belova has already become a fan-favorite MCU character thanks to the charming Florence Pugh. While the Hulu shows aren’t considered canon, Dagger had her own series alongside her partner Cloak that ran for two seasons.

Heroes of MCU’s Werewolf By Night Reunite for New Halloween Tale

Marvel Comics has announced a new tale of terror starring “Werewolf By Night” Jack Russell and prolific monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone.

With Marvel having been completely radio-silent about the status of Blade’s film, there could still be a lot of wiggle room to adjust the plot before its production. While Blade is a powerful character who can stand on his own, theMCU desperately needs a comebackafter the intense fatigue that set in during Phase 4. Frankly, while there are some strong exceptions, the MCU has gotten stalein the last few years, and a group of charming monster-hunting women likethe Blood Hunterscould be just what the franchise needs to kickstart a future of supernatural horror films, starting withBlade.
