Marvel Releasing a One-Year Retrospective on the Ultimate Universe
A One-Year Reflection
In 2023,Marvel announced that it would relaunchits beloved (and for many, infamous) Ultimate Universe following its presumed demise several years earlier. The original iteration of the Ultimate Marvel Universe refers to Earth-1610, an alternate answer to Marvel’s canon that proved to be more mature, gritty, and oftentimes more controversial than whatever happens in Earth-616. The Ultimate Universe ceased to exist in 2015’sSecret Wars, but in 2023,a rebooted Ultimate Universe would surface within Earth-6160, a result of The Maker’s attempts to rebuild his former world in his image.
Who Is THE MAKER? Ultimate Marvel’s Evil Reed Richards, Explained
In most universes Reed Richards is one of the world’s greatest heroes, but the Ultimate Universe Reed became a multiversal villain known as the Maker.
A new era of the Ultimate Universe started with last year’sUltimate Invasion, a four-part miniseries. What followed were four incredibly exciting series that remain some of Marvel’s best ongoing titles, with their canonical works including:Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men, andThe Ultimates. Each of these series have proven to be incredibly unique from each other, each offering a fresh take on classic characters. If theOne Year Inone-shot follows suit, this could be an issue that’s just as much of a celebration of the Ultimate Universe as it is a retrospective.

But Which Character Will Go Ultimate Next?
It’s been promised that a newUltimatetitle will follow upOne Year In, which is an exciting prospect even without a hint as to which character (or characters) could be getting a new take next. While it’s not clear who could go Ultimate next, for now at least, readers should use this opportunity to appreciate and reflect on a year of the Ultimate Universe. On both a critical and financial level, theUltimate Universehas exceeded expectations, and to see Marvel still has plans to freshen things up is nothing less than riveting.

Ultimate Marvel
Created in 2000, the Ultimate Marvel imprint redesigned the entire Marvel Comics universe with a new set of origin stories and relationships. The reboot reinterpreted Marvel continuity from scratch in an attempt to simplify and update the company’s 60-year history for modern audiences. With famous comic book writers such as Brian Michael Bendis, Warren Ellis, and Mark Millar at the helm, the Ultimate universe (named Earth-1610 within the Marvel multiverse) lasted 15 years and provided plenty of inspiration for the MCU.
