Warning: contains spoilers forJustice Society of America#10!

DC’s future is about to change forever as theJustice Society of Americaare set to go to war against theLegion of Super-Heroes. Recently, the Justice Society recruited a time-lost, younger version of Mordru, one of the Legion’s greatest foes. This younger, gentlerMordru is seeking redemption, but as seen inJustice Society of America#10, the Legion has other ideas.

Justice Society of America#10 is written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Mikel Janin and Marco Santucci. The issue opens with a curious sequence involving the Legion of Substitute Heroes. The Legion itself is seemingly missing, and the Substitute Heroes continually reference the Justice Society for some reason. Later, in the present day, the Legion arrives at the Justice Society of America’s headquarters.

The entire Legion of Super-Heroes threatens the Justice Society

The Legion tells the Society that by allowing Mordru into their ranks, they have doomed the future.

The Legion seems poised and ready for battle as the issue ends.

The Legion of Super-Heroes Are Taking On DC’s First Superhero Team

Mordru Has Become a Point of Contention Between the Legion and the Justice Society

The Justice Society and theLegion of Super-Heroes represent two endsof DC history:the Society is DC’s first team, grounded in the present day, whereas the Legion, based in the far future, represents the fulfillment of the Society’s vision. One of the Legion’s most vile foes is the sorcerer Mordru. His name alone strikes fear into the hearts of magic users and the heroes of the 31st century. However, this is a much younger Mordru, seeking to curtail his evil destiny. The Society, who is now working to reform former villains, took Mordru in.

Mordru’s history of evil and violence seems to justify the Legion’s response as seen inJustice Society of America#10. However, this younger Mordru has shown some interest in being a good and decent person. During the Society’s battle with the Gentleman Ghost, Mordru demonstrated no hang-ups on sapping Hawkman’s life force. While it helped stop the Ghost, and Hawkman did reincarnate afterward, it showed that old habits are going to die hard for Mordru. It also seems to reinforce the Legion’s belief that Mordru joining the Justice Society is not a good thing.
