That’s a major shift in the story, and in particular could have negatively impacted his redemption arc, while also just being potentially confusing. Technically, you could argue that’s true in the book, but I think there’s an extra level of attention to detail when reading something likeA Song of Ice and Fire, versus more casual audiences remembering every conversation throughout a season of TV.

Similarly, it would risk losing the point of her arc and return. It could be harder to tie in Brienne (though there’s still the duty element there, at least), as you lose the emotion of bringing her and Jaime into it together.
