“It definitely wasn’t something that I went into the season knowing, but this season felt final in some ways. We’ve all been like this family for a couple of years now and when we were wrapping up this season, it felt very much like, ‘We don’t know if we’ll do this again. It’s sad. It feels like the end of an era. It’s upsetting that I won’t get to do such a fun show. Not being able to work every day and create with all of these amazing people is sad, but at the same time, it feels like a natural progression. Our careers are going to grow. We can move on, grow, and do other things.”

Why Did The CW Cancel All American: Homecoming?

The Spinoff Was Impacted By Changes At The Network

Under the new leadership of Nexstar, which took over 75% of the channel in late 2022, The CW moved away from the young adult dramas and the superhero sagas it became largely known for in the 2010s. Instead, citing the fact that it wanted to appeal to a broader audience, Nexstar began canceling or otherwise bringing to an end most of the well-known CW Originals, such asRiverdaleand the Arrowverse franchise. In its place,Nexstar has focused on acquiring low-cost scripted series from outside the U.S. and bringing in more sports programming.

Prior to the Nexstar acquisition, The CW was jointly owned by Warner Bros. and Paramount. They would produce shows relatively cheaply and then license those shows to Netflix, where they would often attract streaming views, in a profitable deal for all parties. Though they still own a stake in the current iteration, amounting to 12.5% each, WB and Paramount have their own streaming platforms, and the old way of producing CW shows was ultimately phased out.

What Damon’s Reduced All American: Homecoming Season 3 Role Means For Simone’s Love Triangle

When All American: Homecoming season 2 ended, Simone and Damon were getting serious, so how will Peyton Alex Smith’s reduced screen time affect them?

This specifically impactedAll American: Homecomingseason 3, which already saw a notablereduction to its ensemble and budget. Whereas the original series,All American, still had a deal with Netflix that covered season 7, the deal did not extend to the spinoff.Warner Bros. TV, the spinoff’s producer, worked out a separate deal that only accounted for the first three seasons.Coupled with a changing strategy by new owners, that sealed the sports drama’s fate. But, as Bobb-Semple mentions, the end of the series could lead to a new beginning and different opportunities for the cast and crew.
