While the series will not be canon, it will nevertheless bring audiences several plot points many have wanted to see from acrosstheStar Warstimeline, and it’s clear it will take some very fun creative liberties to do so.
In an exclusive interview with Joe Deckelmeier forScreen Rant, showrunners and executive producers forLEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, shared the impressive level of freedom they had while working on the series. In response to a question regarding where they drew inspiration for the series, Samit explained:

A lot of it was just fan theories or ideas or alternate paths that you always sort of dream of when you were just hanging out as nerds, just the stuff you talked about. So it’s like right when we first were coming up with ideas for this, we knew right away like, Well, Darth Jar Jar. This is the perfect opportunity to finally do it. Or things like Jedi Vader, the Redeemed Vader where it’s just like, What would that be like? We finally had this perfect opportunity to explore some of these alternate scenarios.
Hernandez elaborated:
Because it’s Lego Star Wars, we could be a little bit more unexpected in what we were allowed to do. To the Everlasting credit of Lucasfilm and to Lego, they said, go for it. There were times where we’d go, Is this too crazy? And they go, No, not at all. This is the 25th anniversary of Lego Star Wars. Let’s do something special. Let’s really make an impact and give people something they never thought that they’d see. And so that’s when they gave us that mission statement. We said, Okay, you asked for it. That’s where Darth Jar Jar came from. That’s where Beach Luke came from. That’s where the Ewok Bounty hunters came from. All of these kind of pet ideas that were mostly just the two of us sitting around going, Wouldn’t be really cool if there [was an] Ewok that was like a bounty hunter. But that would never happen. They would probably never do that. And then we’d go, Oh wait a minute. We can do that. We can totally do that. They’ve given us permission and they can’t take it back. They probably could take it back, but I feel like now it’s a little late. So now that’s how we have all this stuff.
The series, set to release on Disney+ on September 13th, 2024, will shockingly see the appearance of not only Darth Jar Jar but also Sith Rey, a beach-themed Luke Skywalker (voiced by Mark Hamill himself), and a redeemed Darth Vader, proving that this LEGO show is surely one to watch.

Jar Jar Binks is the most annoying character in the Prequel Trilogy - but could he really be Darth Jar Jar, Palpatine’s accomplice?
LEGO Star Wars Is Bringing Some Wonderfully Creative Ideas To Life
As made evident in the interview with Hernandez and Samit, someStar Warsconcepts, no matter how popular they are, simply aren’t feasible to bring to the canon or live-action screen. Among those is certainly Darth Jar Jar, a long-time fan theory that sadly just won’t work in the canon. However, the LEGO style of the show offers incredible creative freedoms that otherwise wouldn’t work, which made it possible for the showrunners to make updates to some ofStar Wars’best characters.
SomeStar Warsconcepts, no matter how popular they are, simply aren’t feasible to bring to the canon or live-action screen.
While Darth Jar Jar may steal the show (or at least the headlines) because the concept has been so popular for so long, it’s equally exciting to imagine what a redeemed Darth Vader could look like. Anakin/Vader died after being redeemed by his son inReturn of the Jedi, but he certainly was young enough to have lived a great deal longer following the original trilogy, which could have had massive implications for the galaxy. In fact, with Vader only in his 40s when he died, he could even have gone on to help Luke establish a Jedi Order.
Moreover, the stories being told inRebuild the Galaxyare perhaps the closestStar Warswill come to doing a ‘what if’ style show, which audiences have also long called for. There are simply so many incredible characters and stories in theStar Warsuniverse that it’s thrilling to think about the opportunity for their arcs to go in completely uncharted directions. Now, it seems,LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxywill be offering viewers exactly that when it releaseson September 13th, 2024 on Disney+.
