Summary

Konstantin’s proposal to Iris inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 8 shows the similarities between him and Mike, even as Iris consistently proves herself as capable and tough to both men.Mayor of Kingstownseason 3 let Iris find a purposein her mission to spy on Konstantin to help Mike with insider information, finally transforming her from the perpetual damsel in distress Mike wanted to save in seasons 1 and 2 into an outstanding team member. Iris’s mission informed Mike of Callahan and Konstantin’s deal and the planned arrival of Konstantin’s girls, essentially providing him with unrivaled reports.

Iris acted cleverly and swiftly inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, even when Mike sprung on her last-minute raids from SWAT that could have risked her cover had she just followed Mike’s lead instead of finding her own solution. While Mike might have learned to leave Iris to judge for herself what she could and couldn’t do inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 8, he still preferred she left Kingstown behind, no matter what Iris’s wishes were. Mike’s wish eerily mirrored that of another character in Iris’s life, showing how both failed to understand Iris, no matter their differences.

Ian & Mike’s “Line” Talk In Mayor Of Kingstown Season 3 Foreshadows A Terrible Fate For One Character

The bus tragedy in Mayor of Kingstown season 3 left many rattled, but 2 discussions about which “line” not to cross hint at 1 character’s dire fate.

Konstantin Giving An Out To Iris Shows How He & Mike View Her Similarly In Mayor Of Kingstown

Konstantin Admitted Trying To Help Iris Or Control Her Looked Similar

Mayor of Kingstownseason 3’s bus tragedy deeply affected Iris, leading her to disobey Konstantin’s direct orders. Konstantin said sorry for violently shaking Iris to try and distract her in season 3, episode 8, but his subsequent offer to her oddly mirrored what Mike wanted from her in season 2. Indeed,Konstantin offered Iris a clean slate, with a new identity and relocation away from him and his organization, similar to how Mike wanted Iris to go into witness protection inMayor of Kingstownseason 2.

The similarities between how the two men behaved with Iris didn’t stop there, asKonstantin wisely admitted how there was little difference between checking on Irisbecause he was worriedor controlling her, as he would have preferred her away from Kingstown. Not unlike Konstantin,Mike’s protection of Iris often backfired inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, as Mike solely focused on keeping Iris out of harm’s way immediately without thinking about how doing so would have hurt her in the long run, especially in her mission to spy on Konstantin.

Mike and Konstantin both project their fears and wishes on Iris, checking on her and wanting her out of Kingstown to save her, without thinking really about what her wishes are.

Mike & Konstantin Both Try To Protect Iris To The Point Of Not Letting Her Choose Her Path

They Shouldn’t Be The Ones To Decide For Her

Konstantin’s insistence on getting Iris to accept his offer shows how saving her from Kingstown means something to him more than respecting Iris’s wishes. No matter how Iris proved herself capable of witnessing the nefarious acts Konstantin committed without being particularly affected, Konstantin still believed he should choose for herbecause he knew better. Mike behaved similarly throughoutMayor of Kingstown, not sharing important information about Milo inMayor of Kingstownseason 2 and even pushing Iris toward leaving inMayor of Kingstownseason 3without checking with Iris what her plans and wishes were.

Mike’s constant comments on Iris’s lifestyle show he struggles with letting Iris decide, too. While his preoccupation with Iris made sense,Iris’s behavior never gave Mike any reason to worry, with Iris proving herself time and time again by remaining in Konstantin’s favorand gathering useful information. This points to Konstantin and Mike’s similar wish to control Iris to protect her from her choices, drawing a frightening parallel betweenMayor of Kingstownseason 3’s biggest villain and the show’s protagonist.
