Warning: Spoilers for Wonder Woman #11!

Summary

While everyone is waiting forTaylor Swiftto enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she may have a future atDC Comicsinstead. Fans are convinced thatTaylor Swift is playing Lady Deadpoolin the upcomingDeadpool & Wolverinemovie. Rumors aside, others aredream-casting her as other Marvel characters, like Dazzler and Magik.

However, there is a possible future forTaylor Swift as DC Comics' Black Canary, judging by Dinah’s appearance inWonder Woman#11 for the backup story “World’s Finest Part 8” by Tom King and Belén Ortega. The story depicts Black Canary as a larger-than-life mega-pop star. On paper, that fits T-Swift to a tee.

Not only does this give Swift the perfect character to play on the screen, but it elevates Black Canary to a level she’s never been outside of her superheroism that the DCU should continue to explore.

Black Canary’s Unbelievable Power Feat Makes Her DC’s Underrated Powerhouse (Against… Dinos?)

Black Canary has long been sidelined by other male heroes in DC Comics, but it’s about time her voice is heard - it can fell a dinosaur, after all.

Taylor Swift Would Make the Perfect Black Canary

Dinah Lance Is a Super-Celebrity

The story centers around the friendship betweenWonder Woman’s daughter Lizzie Prince, Damian Wayne, and Jon Kent. Taking a break from being Trinity, Robin, and Superman, they take a trip to a concert to see Black Canary live — begrudgingly so for Damian, who, despite being the one to get front row tickets for his friends using connections from his mother,Damian did not see what the hype was about regarding Black Canary’s music - until he heard it live.

From the moment that Damian left the concert and even during a post-concert mission with an equally Dinah-obsessed Mongul, Damian became a dedicated Canary. Or perhaps a Swiftie, for analogy’s sake?

From the moment that Dinah opened her mouth, the latest Robin was in awe — speechless even (which, truthfully, is the effect Taylor Swift herself has on people). The cherry on top of his experience came whenBlack Canary asked Damian to join her onstage so that he could"be [her] Robin.“From the moment that Damian left the concert and even during a post-concert mission with an equally Dinah-obsessed Mongul, Damian became a dedicated Canary. Or perhaps a Swiftie, for analogy’s sake?

Black Canary Becomes the Taylor Swift of the DC Universe

And DC Should Capitalize on That Potential

It’s easy to imagine that the creative team was heavily inspired by Swift and her impact on audiences when crafting this story. WhileBlack Canary has often been portrayed as having a music background(most prominently during the New 52, when Dinah had arock band called Black Canary), her star power was never on a level that pales in comparison to Taylor Swift’s modern fanbase. That stardom itself poses a fascinating prospect that may be worth delving further into at DC Comics.

It appears the megastar turn fmight be a non-canon one-off for the backup story, but it should be incorporated into canon. It’s rare that DC heroes reach celebrity status (that’s usually seen in Marvel characters, like Dazzler), but it would be an interesting character detail that would separate this hero from the rest of the Justice League. Not only does she have to balance her life as a hero with the Birds of Prey, but she has to maintain a celebrity persona. It’s reminiscent of Dazzler, but if Marvel isn’t inTaylor Swift’sfuture, this version of Black Canary is tailor-made for her over in the world ofDC Comics.
