“Look, I wish I had the best news, the thing to run with, other than the fact thatI feel pretty cautiously optimistic that next year is our time. It’s just a matter of [timing], with Donald and touring, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith I think has got a second season, and Joel’s on Animal Control.
“Thankfully all of them are so very busy. We’re looking for that, but I have faith it’ll come together.”

Why The Dan Harmon Film Is Taking So Long
While there had long been talk and ambition of getting aCommunitymovie off the ground following the series finale in 2015, the official announcement that Peacock had given a film the green light didn’t arrive until seven years later. There were questions about whether some actors, like Glover, would return, but the project seemed to have momentum. Harmon, it was reported, would be returning to pen the script.

The script process for the film, however, has been a slow one. Theonset of the WGA strike in May 2023 paused work on theCommunitymovie scriptuntil the labor movement’s conclusion in September. In February 2024, Harmon confirmed that the script was nearing completion, and then, in April, Brie revealed that theCommunitymovie script had been completedand that she had read it. In June, Harmon provided another update toVariety, explaining of the slow timeline that “our engine moves so slowly and so easily gets derailed and stuck.”

If theCommunitymovie does go to camera before the final months of 2025, it’s very likely that it will hit Peacock before the end of next year as it will likely have a shorter post-production timeline than a bigger-budget Hollywood movie.
