Summary
I enjoyed Boone’s character inTwisters, but no one could replace the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman’s role as Dusty from the original movie. Lee Isaac Chung’s sequel sees a group of storm chasers actually trying to create a device that can stop a tornado in its tracks.Twistershas been well-received by critics and it’s doing well at the box office, so it’s fair to say that it’s a hit. I personally really enjoyed the movie; it’s a fun ride, it delivers plenty of spectacle, and I was surprised by how funny it was.
Although it’s a standalone sequel with only tangential connections to the original film, the cast ofTwistershas parallels with the first movie. Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Kate Carter is this generation’s Bill, the legendary storm chaser who’s reluctant to return to the field. Glen Powell’s Tyler Owens is this generation’s Jo, the fearless storm chaser who lives for the thrill of tornadoes. But, as lovable as he is, Brandon Perea’s Boone – theTwistersequel’s replacement for the first movie’s Dusty – is no substitute for Philip Seymour Hoffman, one of the greatest actors who ever lived.

Much like Dusty in Twister, Boone is the wildest one of the bunch
This wild streak made Boone the sequel’s answer to the first film’s Dusty Davies. Dusty is goofy, affable, and well-liked, but he also has a dark sense of humor, especially when it comes to his morbid fascination with tornadoes. Most people would turn and run the other way if they saw a destructive force of nature tearing through the countryside, but both Boone and Dusty would run toward it. As the wildcard of their respective movies,Boone and Dusty provide a lot of the comic relief in theTwisterfranchise.
Brandon Perea got his breakthrough with the role of Angel Torres inNope.

Why Nobody Could Replace Dusty In Twister
Philip Seymour Hoffman is a one-of-a-kind talent
Considering he’s a side character in a disaster movie,Dusty is surprisingly well-rounded and three-dimensional. He’s a dark-humored goofball who loves chasing tornadoes, but he’s also a deeply loyal and protective friend. He’s a chilled-out, easy-going guy, but he also shows himself to be heroic when the time comes. When Aunt Meg’s house is being torn down by a storm, Dusty doesn’t hesitate to rush in to help her. For the comic relief character in a movie about tornadoes, Dusty is a really well-developed character with a lot of substance.
And on top of that,Hoffman knocked the role out of the park. As always, he gave an impeccable performance inTwister, bringing the same dedication to a disaster movie that he would bring to a Paul Thomas Anderson epic.Hoffman was a one-of-a-kind talent; along with Meryl Streep and Marlon Brando, he’s genuinely one of the greatest actors who ever lived. Whether he was playing a charismatic cult leader inThe Masteror the boom operator on a porno set inBoogie Nightsor even the villain in aMission: Impossiblemovie, Hoffman was a completely mesmerizing screen presence.

Brandon Perea’s Boone Was Still A Great Addition In Twisters
He was a really fun character (and very likable)
While Boone is no suitable replacement for Hoffman’s Dusty, he is still a great character and a great addition to the ensemble ofTwisters. He brought a lot of fun moments to the movie with his unhinged obsession with tornadoes and his much-needed doses of lively humor.Perea shared terrific chemistry with Powell as a pair of thrill-seeking storm chasersand managed to hold his own opposite Hollywood’s latest A-list star. He’s no Hoffman, but he’s a wonderful actor nonetheless.
Plus, Boone is shown to have a surprising amount of depth and integrity. When Kate first meets Tyler, she thinks he’s just a vain, arrogant, self-serving celebrity. But a crucial scene inTwistersshows Tyler to be so much more than that. After enjoying the thrill of a tornado, Tyler and his team drive into the wreckage to help people. Yes, he puts his face all over merchandise, but he uses the proceeds from the merch to buy food and water for the survivors. And Boone helps him do it, which makes the character more likable.
