How to Save a Route on Strava
If one of the people you follow onStravaposted a new activity, and you’d like to go on the same route, you can save it for future use.
Select the activity and tap on the map, then selectSave Route. you’re able to rename the route to easily identify it. Also, you can download the route for offline use.

Once you’re done, tapSavein the top-right corner.
How to Follow a Saved Strava Route
To check out your saved routes, tapMapsand selectSaved Routes, then select the route you want to follow.
By tappingStart, Strava will show you the nearest route point for you and the start point. However, you will not get any directions for how to get to the route.

If you need directions, tap thethree-doticon and selectDriving directions.
Discover New Routes on Strava
Sometimes, running, riding, or hiking the same route can get boring. However, you’re able to have Strava suggest a new route so you canstay motivated during your workouts.
To check out suggested routes, launch the app and tap onMaps, then selectRoutes. Now, you have to input data so Strava can come up with the best suggestion. First, set up your location.

Then use theSport Type,Distance,Elevation, andSurfaceoptions so Strava can put together an optimized route.
You don’t have to use all the provided criteria as it may limit your options, especially if there are not a lot of trails or roads around you.

How to Edit Routes on Strava
If one of your friends’ routes or a route that Strava generated for you isn’t the best fit, you can edit it.
First, you have to add the route you want to edit to your saved routes. Then select it, open thethree-dotmenu, and tapEdit route. If you want to keep the original route as well, selectEdit a copy.

To edit the route, tap on one of the waypoints and move it around the map. Strava will change the route distance and elevation in real time. Once you’re done editing the route, tapContinue.
you’re able to set a new name, check privacy controls, or download the route for offline usage. Then selectSave.
The newly edited route will be available within theSaved Routesmenu.
How to Create a Strava Route From Scratch
If Strava’s route discovery feature didn’t produce the expected results, you can take matters into your own hands. If you often explore a certain area and are confident in your orientation skills, you can create a route for you and your friends to follow from scratch.
In Strava’s mobile app, selectMapsat the bottom of the screen. Then open theRoutesmenu and selectDraw your own route. You can use thePenciltool and manually draw the route on the map or insert waypoints by tapping thePlus (+)icon.
You don’t have to stress about being precise as Strava will snap your drawing to the closest known trails or roads. If there are multiple trails close to each other, we recommend you zoom in more or switch to a bigger screen.
Once you’re finished, tap onDone. You can rename the route, sync it on your supported device, or download it so that you can use it offline.
On Strava for the web, open theExploremenu and click onCreate a route. Then draw a route that will be challenging or fun enough for you.
How to Share One of Your Strava Routes
Strava is a great app for professional and daily athletes to share their activities. However, you can’t directly share a route with one of your friends. Instead, you can share the activity, and they’ll then have to save the route on their profile.
To share one of your activities, select it and tap on theShareicon. Then, choose the app that you want to use to share the activity. If the default options don’t suit your preferences, tap theMorebutton.
How to Share a Strava Route With Non-Strava Users
Even if your friends or family don’t use Strava, you can still share your routes with them. However, the process is a bit more complicated as you have to send them a GPX file.
Now, they can upload the GPX file to theirmap and GPS appsand follow the same route as you.
The same goes if one of your friends doesn’t use Strava, and they want to share a route with you. Or you’ve found a route online, and you want to give it a try.
