Whether you’re looking for your next job or want tojoin a group or community on LinkedIn, you can track down the best ones. Just think about the right keywords and filters to apply to your advanced search.
1. Enter Your Search Terms
On your LinkedIn dashboard, go to the search box, type in the career you’re interested in, and hitEnter. A new page will open containing a mix of results related to your search term, from people and groups to jobs and courses.
Above these, you’ll find LinkedIn’s advanced search filters. Some are obvious. For others, you need to dig deeper.
2. Choose a Standard or Advanced Filter
Your immediate search options are: Jobs, People, Posts, Groups, Courses, Events, Products, Companies, Schools, Services. In addition, “All filters” feature allows you to apply more detailed filtering criteria.
Focusing on your obvious choices, click the tab you want, and it opens another page with more results and ways to narrow down your ideal job or contact.
3. Use LinkedIn’s All Filters Tool

If you’re on your initial results page, for example,All filtersoffer additional job search options by default. The aforementioned trick is that you can choose what category of filters you see.
To do this, click the button in theFilter only ___ byfield and choose your category from the dropdown menu. The panel will change and show you advanced search filters relevant to finding people, jobs, companies, and so on. Add the filters you want and hit theShow resultsbutton.
LinkedIn automatically switches to the category’s page and incorporates the filters you asked for. A simpler route to get here is to select the category from your initial advanced search options and use theAll filterstab from that page. The relevant filters will already be there. All this gives you a sense of howproactive job hunting on LinkedIncan be. But there’s more to learn.
4. Use Filters Within Filters
In addition to your handyAll filterstool, you have other search options in each category’s page. If you click on theCompaniestab, you may then choose specific locations, industries, and company sizes.
The jobs page comes with its own set of advanced filters. These include date posted, experience level, salary, and easy apply. Between these options andAll filters, there’s no doubt that LinkedIn can help your job networking. If not, make sure you get a few more tricks up your sleeve.
5. Refine Your Search With Boolean Logic
Get to knowhow to use LinkedIn’s Boolean operatorsto make your search terms as precise as possible. All you do is add quotes, parentheses, AND, NOT, and OR to your phrases. Your results will include or exclude the details specified.
You’ll get people, posts, companies, and more that match your advanced search. Use your filters as well to browse through potential contacts and work opportunities more effectively.
6. Bookmark LinkedIn Queries
If the results are too many to get through in one go, or you want to see if anything new appears later, check that to bookmark the page. When you return, your query and search results will be as you left them—give or take a few changes. You can keep working without missing a beat.
