An effective way to prolong your battery’s lifespan is by limiting its charging to 80%. While Windows 11 doesn’t include any straightforward option to restrict battery charge, you may still achieve it using manufacturer-specific tools or BIOS settings.

1Setting Charge Limits on Lenovo Laptops

Nearly all Lenovo laptops running Windows 11 come with the company’s Lenovo Vantage app preinstalled.

This app not only offersoptions for optimizing your computer’s performanceand improving device security, but it also includes a feature that allows you to set charging limits.

Setting a battery charging limit on HP laptops isn’t as straightforward as it involvesaccessing the BIOS menu. This feature is also only available on HP’s business series notebooks, so not everyone can use it.

If you have an HP laptop that supports this feature, you canextend the battery’s lifespanby preventing it from charging beyond 80%. To do so, use these steps:

The BIOS or UEFI menu may look different on your HP laptop depending on the model. However, you should be able to find the option in theConfigurationorAdvancedtab if your laptop supports it.

The app includes aBattery Care Modeoption that limits the battery charge to 80% of its full capacity. Here’s how to enable it.

For those looking to extend their battery’s lifespan even further, there’s also theBest for Batteryoption. This mode halts charging at 60% and resumes once the battery drops to 50%, offering an even more power-efficient approach.

On most laptops, you can easily set a charging limit using the manufacturer-provided app. Some of these apps also include additional features, such as the ability to set custom charging thresholds to help preserve battery health, so be sure to explore them as well.

If your laptop doesn’t support this feature natively, don’t worry—you can still take control of your charging habits by using a third-party app thatshows an alert when your battery reaches 80%.
