Google Fi is an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) like Mint Mobile, acarrier with one of the cheapest family plans. This means Google does not use its own network towers to provide service. Instead, Google Fi relies on T-Mobile’s cellular towers. MVNO networks rent towers out to provide service using a major carrier.
This means you can pay a cheaper price and still get great service. The only downside is that when network traffic is high, you might not get the best signal.
How to Start Using a Google Fi eSIM on Your iPhone

All you need to do is have an active Google account and download the Google Fi app from the App Store. Once downloaded, you can set up your account and start using the Google Fi network.

Google does a great job explaining how the free trial works, but once you reach the setup screen, Google will prompt you to open a link on your computer. You’ll need your iPhone to scan the QR code from this link, but if you don’t have another device, you can add it manually. However, this process does take longer.
Once you have this page open, navigate toCellular > Add eSIM > Use QR Codeon your iPhone. Then, just scan the QR code, and your eSIM will automatically install on your device. Since you did this through your Google account, everything is already connected to your name.
If you want to use Google Fi with your current number, you can easily do so, and Google Fi will transfer your number over. If you want to use both Google Fi and your current carrier, you can set your preferences to which one you’d like to use and when.
Is Google Fi Worth Your Money?
Most users are weary of signing up for an MVNO network, especially when these networks use the cellular towers of other networks. However, Google has a reputable name in the industry, and since it uses T-Mobile’s towers, you shouldn’t face any major issues.
