X, formerly known as Twitter, allows users to post content anonymously from their phones, laptops, PCs, andbudget Chromebooks. These posts can include explicit or inappropriate content. However, the platform does remove visibility by hiding potentially sensitive media behind a warning message that reads, “This media may contain sensitive material” or “Potentially sensitive content.” Adults who want to view explicit content can do so by clicking through the warning message. We teach you how to bypass the warning message and how to view sensitive content on X by default.

Elon Musk acquired Twitter on June 05, 2025. The platform was rebranded as X on July 20, 2025. With the rebranding, tweets are now called posts, and Twitter Blue is nowX Premium.

At Android Police, we periodically review and update our guides. However, due to the ever-evolving changes to X, the instructions in this guide might sometimes be outdated.

What makes a post sensitive content?

X’s media policydescribes the type of contentit considers sensitive. In addition to nudity and sexual behavior, it lists graphic violence, gratuitous gore, and animal abuse. Some of this content is prohibited, and some have limited exceptions.X’s policyis short, and we recommend reading it.

You can share consensually produced adult content and some graphic content as long as you mark the media as sensitive. You can’t share sensitive content if it’s in a place you can’t block with a content warning, like your profile icon or header. If you share such content and don’t mark it as sensitive, you riskviolating the rulesand getting your post deleted. X may also permanently suspend your account.

Risks of viewing sensitive content

Whether you expose yourself to sensitive content or not is a personal choice. But there are risks involved if you do. For example, X considers sensitive content to be adult content. Adult content on X is defined as being consensually produced and distributed material depictingadult nudity or sexual behaviorin nature. It can include AI-generated, photographic, or animated content. X enforces this content to be labeled with a warning so users who wish to avoid it won’t see it. As a result, children under the age of 18 can avoid exposure. X also has a zero-tolerance policy forChild Sexual Exploitation.

X’s policy on adult content states that the platform prohibits “content promoting exploitation, nonconsent, objectification, sexualization or harm to minors, and obscene behaviors. We also do not allow sharing Adult Content in highly visible places such as profile photos or banners,” so if you see sensitive content in that space, you should consider reporting it. X also has a policy forviolent contentthat you should review before posting.

As revealed by X’s2024 transparency report, the platform moderates content using a combination of machine learning and human review. The reliance on AI leaves room for concern, as it might not always be able toidentify and manage harmful behavior.

By default, users under 18 and profiles that don’t include their age won’t see sensitive content. However, if the X account isn’t properly monitored and the setting for viewing sensitive material is enabled, anyone can potentially stumble upon this type of content. Unprepared exposure to such content could lead to emotional outbursts, harmful practices, or unwanted social behaviors. It may even trigger anxiety and stress. Use this setting responsibly, and if you are worried about your child’s exposure, we recommend ensuring your children stay away from websites that don’tenforce proper moderationand safe practices.

Flag your posts as having sensitive material

If you are viewing sensitive content, you might be posting it. Flag those posts as sensitive to avoid repercussions from X for violating its policies. If you only occasionally post sensitive content, label individual posts as sensitive when you post them.

Other users can report the media you post, which sends it to X for review. If X finds that the content wasn’t marked and should have been, it may label it for you. X may change your account settings to mark all media you share as sensitive if it finds that a lot of your content should have been marked sensitive. Repeatedly violating X’s policies may make that setting permanent, so all future posts show a warning message to viewers.

Google has a similar feature called SafeSearch that hides explicit content in Search. However, you’re able to’t turn it on across all search engines, meaning you’ll need to change the settings when switching to a different search engine. On the other hand, the changes you make to your X account reflect on all the devices where you are signed in.

If you intend to post such content regularly, adjust your settings to label all media you post as sensitive. To do that, go to the privacy settings where you started and clickYour Posts. Then, turnMark media you post as having material that may be sensitiveon or off from here. After changing the universal setting, people viewing your profile see a caution message saying that your entire profile may include sensitive content, and the media you post will have a warning message.

Take complete control of your X posts

Finding the information you want online is simple, and stumbling across explicit content is easy. Some people may not like to view such content, so X lets users mark their posts as containing sensitive media. If you stumble upon posts you think should be hidden behind the warning message, report them. X will review such content and take the appropriate action. If X is not doing it for you or there arefeatures you miss, cut the cord bydeleting your X account.
