Matter to Amazon Alexa: What You’ll Need

Since Matter is an entirely new smart home standard, adding a device to your home differs fromconnecting older devices like a smart plug to Alexa. To begin with, you’ll need to ensure that your device is compatible with Matter.

it’s possible to check for compatibility by looking for a Matter label or pairing code on-device or in the included packaging. If you have an older device that recently became compatible with Matter, you’ll likely need to refer to the vendor’s app for the code.

In addition to a compatible smart device, your Amazon Echo must also support Matter Controller functionality. Luckily, almost every Echo device on the market —with a few exceptions— supports Matter as long as it is running the latest software release.
