Summary

Ryan Reynolds has been playing Deadpool for years beforeDeadpool & Wolverine, but as the actor begins to age, it would make sense for him to lean more on stunt doubles to don the suit. Reynolds has played Deadpool since he first appeared in 2009’sX-Men Origins: Wolverinewhere there was precious little costume to hide behind for the actor. However, since starring in his own movies, and now appearing in theMCU, the Deadpool costume is a full bodysuit that covers his entire body.

Reynolds was in his late 40s while filmingDeadpool & Wolverine, which is normally when most people struggle to stay in shape. However, as an actor, Reynolds is accustomed to maintaining his health and staying in good shape for work, but hisability to perform stunts like he used to is likely impacted by his age. While the suit makes it easy forReynolds to tag in a stunt doublefor tougher action scenes, it appears that Reynolds was still keen to push himself to the limits.

Ryan Reynolds Is In The Deadpool Suit A Lot

Reynolds Still Looks Great In The Suit

It’s no secret that Ryan Reynolds absolutely loves his Deadpool suit. In several interviews and marketing outside of filming, Reynolds dons the suit that has also been referred to as a “big red body condom.” It may be tight and form fitting, butReynolds has been vocal about how important it is for him to wear the suitand still show up for the performance. In a recent interview where Ryan, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy sat down to discussDeadpool & Wolverine, the director offered high praise to Reynolds for his ability to perform in the suit.

While an actor’s greatest asset could be their face, and their ability to express emotion with their dialogue and expressions,Reynolds has a gift for delivering emotion and range even with his face covered. Specifically, using just his voice and physicality, Reynolds is able to get the desired results and perform.Director Shawn Levyis clearly in awe of this gift, and had Ryan chosen to rely on a stunt double for most of his scenes, his performance could have been lost, leading to a less refined finished project.

There Are Also Stunt Doubles In The Deadpool Suit

Ryan Reynolds Doesn’t Do It Alone

However, there are still moments where the actor may not have the necessary training, or the stunt is simply too dangerous. In those moments, Reynolds is not averse to handing over control to someone who is more qualified, and specifically trained to perform those stunts. At present, thespecific stunt double or doubles who appeared as Deadpool have not been namedas appearing in that role, butDeadpool & Wolverinehas a long list of stunt doubles who were cast and not tied to one particular character.

In the first film, Justin Eaton worked as the mocap stunt double for Reynolds, while Will Erichson and Alex Kyshkovych shared the work as Reynolds' stunt double. InDeadpool 2, Leif Havdale, Tom McComas, and Jackson Spidell each worked as stunt doubles for Reynolds druing the project. Kyshkovych alsoreturned forDeadpool & Wolverine, although he was hired as a fight coordinator rather than a stunt double.
