Summary

New set photos fromSuperman(2025) offer fans a look at how Green Lantern’sDCUcostume will look, leading to plenty of comparisons to past versions of the hero. It would also be fair to say the look proved immediately divisive, thanks to its changes to the costumes usually associated with the Lantern Corps in DC Comics.

It was confirmed that Nathan Fillion would be playing the Guy Gardner version of Green Lantern in the DCU’supcomingSupermanmovie, formally introducing the character to the main canon universe. With production starting recently, a first look atFillion’s Green Lanterncostume has been released.

@clevelanddotcom posted set photos fromSuperman’s production in Cleveland featuring what looks to be a team-up of heroes.

Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern stands on the ground alongside David Corenswet’s Superman, while Edi Gathegi’s Mr. Terrific and Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl hang in the air. Rather than the famous green, Fillion’s jacket is mostly white with green accents, along with the Green Lantern logo on his belt and sleeve. Green Lantern and Mr. Terrific both have the Lordtech logo on their costumes, which has fueled theories that the heroes will operate together asthe Justice League International.

Superman: Release Date, Trailer, Plot Details & Everything We Know

Superman is the first entry in James Gunn’s much anticipated new DCU, and here is everything we know from cast to story and release date.

Superman’s Green Lantern Compared To Ryan Reynolds' Version

The most notable live-action adaptation of Green Lantern is undoubtedly the 2011Green Lanternfilm starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. Though the movie wasn’t necessarily a success, it did offer one of the first live-action looks at the iconic green costume.Reynolds’ Green Lantern costumewas heavily criticized for its poor CGI, as the suit itself was overwhelmingly green, and the mask was slightly terrifying to look at. However, Reynolds’ overall look in the film was relatively accurate to Hal Jordan’s comic book attire.

While the 2011Green Lanterncostume was almost doing too much,Superman’s Green Lantern outfit has gone to the opposite side of the spectrum with subtlety. The Guy Gardner version of the character has always been noticeably stylish, and it seemsSuperman’s version of the character is taking notes from that. Rather than the typical hero suit,Fillion wears a chic, mostly white jacket to presumably fit in with the rest of Maxwell Lord’s Lordtech team. The iconic green is only shown through accents throughout the outfit, and even then the green is a considerably darker shade than Reynolds’ Lantern.

Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern Compared To The Snyderverse Lanterns

Green Lantern didn’t get to play as big of a role inZack Snyder’s Justice Leagueas he may have originally intended, but unexpected versions ofthe Lanterns do make brief cameo appearances. The Lantern Yalan Gur appears in the History Lesson story, while Kilowog’s corpse appears in Cyborg’s vision about the Knightmare timeline. With both of the alien Lanterns having such brief appearances, it’s hard to truly get a good look at their costumes. Most notably, Yalan Gur wears a cape as he does in the comics.

Both Yalan Gur and Kilowog’s Green Lantern costumes seem quite durable. Yalan Gur’s costume looks to be made from heavily armored material, while Kilowog’s form-fitting suit makes mobility easier. As stylish as Fillion’s Green Lantern outfit is,its durability in battle may be a bit questionable. However, superhero films have definitely had heroes make do with less. Especially with this specific Green Lantern being Guy Gardner, a simple jacket may be better for him than the typical super suit.

Other Green Lantern Adaptations Compared To Superman’s

Additionally,Green Lantern has been depicted in live actiona handful of other times. The early Green Lantern costumes in both 1979’sLegends of the Superheroesand 1997’sJustice League of Americaare products of their time, and thesimplicity is actually quite reminiscent of Fillion’s costume. However, Fillion’s costume still looks to be well-made despite that simplicity. TheStargirlseries portrayed the Golden Age Green Lantern, who famously has a much more colorful suit than the rest of his Lantern cohorts, including Fillion’s Guy Gardner. The final two Green Lantern depictions were brief cameos inSmallvilleandArrow.

The Golden Age Green Lantern can be seen getting arrested in theSmallvilletwo-episode event, “Absolute Justice.” Like Fillion,Smallville’s Alan Scott wears a chic jacket. TheArrowdepiction is a much smaller moment, as the reference is simply a man walking by in a green aviator jacket with the name “Jordan” on it, a nod to Hal Jordan. With so many people under the Green Lantern moniker, itleaves room for each version to have a unique look.Superman’sGreen Lanterncostume doesn’t look like the typical superhero outfit, but Fillion’s unique look seemingly matches the DCU’s new direction.
