The trailer revealsa grown-up Lucius (Mescal) is now a gladiator himself, working as a weapon for Washington’s Macrinus against powerful, corrupt forces in the Roman Empire. Amid action scenes in the Coliseum involving people fighting, as well as larger scenes of warfare, it’s revealed Lucius has a score to settle with General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal). The two are seen clashing swords, covered in blood, before the trailer ends.

In addition to plenty of elements that will be unique to the sequel, the trailer also makes reference back to the original, featuring flashbacks alongside Maximus' ring in the present day. It also indicates there will be a more complex story this time around,with Macrinus trying to broker power across Rome to change the Empire from the inside.Scenes of fiery warfare and bodies piled up teases a broader scope to the movie than its predecessor.
The fight scenes are also set to be just as exciting as the first film’s, with Lucius and a group of gladiators confirmed to be fighting a rhino at one point. However, this is just one of many sequences that are destined to happen inside the Coliseum, meaning there will be even wilder action sequences to come. One of these will be between Mescal’s character andPascal’s General Acacius, the clash being teased as one of the biggest events of the movie.
