Get Ready to Rock With an Upcoming High-End Sonos Speaker
Sonos has spent the majority of 2022 filling in its product lineup with lower-cost offerings like the Sonos Ray soundbar and the Sonos Roam SL without an integrated microphone.
But the company is reportedly readying a new flagship speaker.
A First Look at the Optimo 2
The Vergehas the first look at the new, high-end speaker, codenamed Optimo 2.
The speaker is taking the Sonos product line in an interesting new direction. Here’s more from the report:
Encased in a funky, dual-angled shell, the new device will be positioned as the best-sounding speaker that Sonos has ever produced. It includes an arsenal of drivers, including several that fire in different directions from beneath the shell between the front speaker grille and backplate. The 3D recreation above is bronze-colored, but Optimo 2 will likely stick to Sonos’ traditional white and black color choices. The device’s frontside is shown in our image, with the vertical rectangle indicating where the Sonos logo will be.
The speaker will reportedly feature twice as much RAM and eight times the flash memory of any previous Sonos product. That’s a strong sign that the speaker will be on the high-end of the lineup. It will also sport upward-firing speakers for Dolby Atmos support.
Along with music over Wi-Fi, the speaker will also be able to play tunes from Bluetooth devices.
The speaker will also feature built-in microphones to help improve the music quality depending on the room the speaker is located in while supporting Sonos Voice Control.

According to the report, the Optimo 2 will be one of three new devices in the pipeline along with the Optimo 1 and Optimo SL. Less is known about the other speakers.
Improving the High-End Sonos Line Up
The Optimo 2 could easily usher in a new lineup of higher-end, home theater oriented speakers from Sonos.
Companies like Amazon, Google, and Apple have made plays for the lower end of the connected speaker market. But the Optimo 2 and the other reported options could help Sonos continue to corner a more lucrative piece of the market.
