Sid Meier’s Civilizationfranchise is an ongoing powerhouse of real-time strategy gaming that delves into the history of cultures and societies across the globe.Civilization VIIis due to be released on 11 February 2025and is coming with a series of changes to the status quoCivfans are familiar with. Some of the most notable changes are the Conquering City change, more controversial changes, and the age change and leader change.A certain aspect of educational opportunity is at risk.
The conquering city change, in which a city immediately alters its culture upon being conquered, is not too dissimilar from previous installments of the franchise, but it is the doorway that opens into the lack of a cemented leader and culture during the progress of ages. There are now three Ages inCivilization 7:Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. At the end of each age, society will reach a crisis, and the playermust pick a new culture in the Age Transitionto evolve from the previous. What was once the growth of a culture from beginning to end is now a mash of whichever leader and whatever culture is paired together.

The Change To Ages Completely Alters The Game
Eras Used To Be Milestones For A Culture’s Growth
Civilization VIutilizes 8 eras: Ancient, Classical, Medieval, Renaissance, Industrial, Modern, Atomic and Information, laying out a direct progression of theplayer’s chosen civilization from beginning to end.Civilization VII’s departure from this structureto the more ambiguousAntiquity, Exploration and Modern Agesshows the lack of focus on a civilization’s growth within its historical cultural identity and leans into a vastly more chaotic form of civilization growth. It is no longer about the stages of civilization to reach the modern day within its own bubble but tries to emulate multiculturalism.
All Civilization 7 Edition Differences & Preorder Bonuses
Civilization 7 is available to preorder in four different bundles that include different DLC, early access, physical collectibles, and more.
Yet the structureCivilization VIIis proposing does not give the player a view of multiculturalism. In fact, it offers quite the opposite. The evolution from Age of Antiquity to Exploration comes with a complete shift to an entire new culture and civilization. The intention can be construed as a huge, destructive crisis befalling a civilization, followed by a transition into something different after the ash settles. However, the dramatic change strips the civilization of its previous identity and installs something radically different, without any historical connection.

Augustus Can Be Emperor Of The United States
Much of the educational opportunities withinCivilizationcan be found in the civilopedia, which were accessible in some of the earlier installments' main menus, such asCivilization IV. However, the game-play itself offered players an opportunity to experience the growth of the leader and culture they picked at the beginning of their campaign. Shifting an entire culture, such as America’s Shawnee, to the Napoleonic French Empire implies a less fluid and smooth transition of a growing culture, casting any concept of logical progression out the window.
The chance to mold and grow an abstract cultural progression is somewhat freeing from the norm.Players are no longer constrained by their civilization’s boundariesand can experience multiple cultural options in one playthrough. It is also rumored that certain actions and Legacy bonuses will affect the civilization options a player can select after the Age Transition is complete, offering the emergence of a new culture based on game-play decisions, but those are unlikely to be within the confines of historical accuracy, should that be important to the player inCivilization VII.
