Warning: contains spoilers forThe Flash#11!

TheFlashjust dropped a bombshell about the hierarchy of DC’s gods, flipping the script on the idea that it is shaped like a pyramid. DC’s pantheon is replete with gods and other powerful entities, and for years, many assumed it was structured like a pyramid, with the highest feeding on the lowest. Yet, in a preview forThe Flash#11, all of this is upended by one stunning revelation.

DC shared a preview forThe Flash#11 withAIPT.The Flash#11 will be written by Si Spurrier and drawn by Ramon Perez. The preview opens with one of the Arc Angels, the central antagonists of thisFlashrun, talking to Wally West. They invoke the classical conception of DC’s pantheon: that is, it is shaped like a pyramid. However, the Arc Angels tell Wally this is not the case. Instead, they inform him that these beings create, and their “magnificence” echoes downward.

Si Spurrier Has Taken the Flash on a Journey Into the Speed Force

The Flash Just Upended DC’s Hierarchy of Gods

Since taking over writing duties onThe Flash, writer Si Spurrier has taken fans on a trippy and surreal odyssey into the heart of the Speed Force, and reality itself. Spurrier and his collaborators have revealed new layers to the ever-enigmatic Speed Force, showing thatthe Flash and his allies barelyunderstand it like they thought they did. The Flash has also discovered a mysterious garden outside of time and reality itself, which has given him additional insights into how the DC Universe functions. The Arc Angels, seen in this preview, have also been an ever constant presence.

Many see the hierarchy of DC’s pantheon as pyramid-like. Sitting at the top are the most powerful beings in the universe, such as the Quintessence, Darkseid and Perpetua. Underneath them would be gods and demi-gods, such as the deities of Greek and Norse mythology. Continuing downward would be ordinary mortals, who would seemingly be prey for those at the top of the pyramid. However, the Arc Angels reveal this is not the case, and instead, the entities at the top are not necessarily preying upon lesser beings. Instead, the cosmos is a conversation between the various beings in it.

The Flash Is Used to Introduced Big Changes to the DC Universe

DC Continually Updates Its Cosmology

How this revelation will play out in future issues ofThe Flash, as well as the rest of the DC Universe, remains to be seen. Over the course of its 80-year history, DC has continually redefined its cosmology, and the new information from the Arc Angels changes it even further. This new model dispenses with set and rigid hierarchies, instead giving fans a more fluid and amorphous version of the DC Universe. TheFlashhas often been used as a conduit to introduce these changes, and once again it has happened as he redefines the hierarchy of gods.
