Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 1’s Major Character Death Explained By Showrunner

Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for Cobra Kai season 6 part 1!

Summary

Cobra Kaishowrunner Hayden Schlossberg has explained why Kreese is at his most dangerous in season 6, and what it means for Kim and other characters as the final season continues. DuringCobra Kaiseason 6 part 1, the story focuses on building up to the Sekai Taikai tournament, with both Miyagi-Do and Kreese’s new version of Cobra Kai preparing for the competition. The dangerous karate master’s return could spell trouble for Daniel and Johnny, having previously conflicted with the former criminal.

Speaking withScreen Rant, Schlossberg explained whyKreese is at his most dangerousinCobra Kaiseason 6, discussing how his teachings contrast with Master Kim’s. The showrunner said the karate master’s teaching helped make him dangerous, something that will become clearer going into parts 2 and 3 of the season. Check out what Schlossberg had to say below:

I’ll just say this: I think that, for Kreese and Kim, it all boils down to how true are they to Master Kim and his teachings? We get a glimpse of Master Kim in the first five and you see that he’s the creator of Cobra Kai. Even though Kreese created the name of it, Kim created the way of the fist. I’ll just say the next two blocks are about them unleashing fury on Miyagi-Do with no mercy and the question is going to be, are they willing to actually go through with that? Is one going to cave?

For now, what we really wanted to do was tweak them both, going into the second block where you see, for Kreese’s character, he has been called out by Master Kim, in a way, of being somebody who’s shown too much mercy! [laughs] You think of him as this horrible guy, but Master Kim can find that one soft spot in him and that soft spot is his student in episode two send Kreese on a journey to rediscover the cobra within him. So this is the most dangerous Kreese that we’ve ever seen.

To that end, Kim Da-Eun has to deal with that, but she also has to deal with the expectations of her grandfather. There’s a lot of motivation to unleash hell and I think both of them have their reasons to prove to Master Kim that they’re not going to show mercy.

What Will Kreese Do In Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2?

Kreese Has Already Brought Tory To His Side

As Schlossberg mentioned,Kim Da-Eun is another character who Kreese has allied himself with in season 6, confirming his ambitions are not his alone to carry. The ending of season 6 part 1 also featured a shocking turn of events, with Tory deciding to join his Cobra Kai after the death of her mother. With her allegiances changing so fast, it’s unclear how thecharacters inCobra Kaiwill react in parts 2 and 3, and what they mean for the antagonist as the Sekai Taikai grows closer.

Since the upcoming karate tournament appears to be the big event for season 6,it wouldn’t be surprising if part 2 continued to focus on the characters and their training, ensuring heightened development for everyone before the show ends. In Kreese’s case, this means harnessing his lack of mercy, likely going to war with Miyagi-Do before the tournament actually happens. Since it’s unclear when exactly he would strike, it makes future episodes unpredictable for theCobra Kaicastto prepare for.

With Kreese now at his most skilled and his most dangerous, it’s clear his role in the upcoming season is going to be much more important than it’s ever been in the series' history. It’s because of his dedication to becoming stronger that he’ll be a bigger threat, now with allies that can help him continue to evolve. Since theSekai Taikai is closing in with every new episode,Cobra Kaiseason 6 parts 2 and 3 will be crucial to revealing how the conflict continues - and who will manage to come out on top.
