Summary

When it comes to tracking and taming dinosaurs inArk: Survival Evolved,it’s difficult to imagine the process being any more exciting than it already is, but that’s about to changethanks to thisPokémon-inspired mod.Arkis a colorful game and despite some of the complaints leveled at the Unreal Engine 5 remake, its creature models pop against the the lively greens and blues of the environment. Still, while most of the dinosaurs already look great, players wanting to add even more flair to their creatures should really check out this add-on.

Over on Curse Forge, creatornevcairielshared their excellent “Shiny! Dinos Ascended” which introduces different color palettes and skins forSurvival Ascended’s cast of prehistoric beasts. Once installed, the mod will add “rare and special” dinosaurs that players will be able to tame for the boosted stats, unique appearances, or special abilities. Shiny Dinos are made from 40 different colors that even pull fromArk’s dye system, meaning some outlandish creatures can be encountered; users worried this might be jarring needn’t fear as the mod has been tailored to ensure even the brightest dinosaur appears natural.

Ark: Survival Ascended’s Power Rangers Crossover Is A Huge Missed Opportunity

Ark: Survival Ascended has a huge collab with the iconic Power Rangers, but this new content seems underwhelming and continues a worrisome trend.

Shiny Dinos Aren’t Just About Looks

Who Doesn’t Want A Frozen Stegosaurus?

WhileArkplayers looking tosimply collect oddly-colored dinosaurswill no doubt already be pleased to learn about “Shiny! Dinos Ascended,” the add-on isn’t all about aesthetics. Unlike Shiny Pokémon, which are largely just palette swaps without any additional bonuses, dinosaurs affected by the Shiny mod stand a chance to gain special abilities. Some of these include powerful status effects like Frozen, Burning, and Spectral but nevcairiel has confirmed that they’re in the process of growing the add-on so more will likely be added in a future update.

Shiny Pokémon may also be known for their scarcity but thoseArkplayers who’d rather not spend hundreds of hours searching for colorful dinosaurs are in luck. The mod comes packaged with a Tracker system that allows users to quickly hunt down any critters they may wantto tame and throw into the corral. While it may not be perfectly accurate, it certainly expedites a process which, in the world ofPokémon, can often take hundreds of hours.

Despite the controversy surroundingArk: Survival Ascended’s launch, thegame is certainly growing in popularity once again. This return to form can largely be attributed to Studio Wildcard’s emphasis on player creations and official mods, allowing the community to customize their experience any way they see fit. “Shiny! Dinos Ascended” is just one such example of users improving on an already strong mechanical foundation.
