Episode 1, “To Defeat Muzan Kibutsuji”
The commencement of this season was a double-length episode that worked toward the foundation for the Hashira training arc. All the Hashiras were united before Ubuyashiki’s wife to discusswhat they should be doing to protect Nezuko, especially now that she had conquered the sun and Muzan would come for her to learn this technique and probably devour her in the process. To prevent this, the Hashiras devised an intriguing solution, training all members of the Demon Slayer Corps under their guidance to prepare them for the final battle by developingthe mark of a true demon slayer.
The double-length episode also teased the fans with a glimpse of the Infinity Castle with two Hashiras raiding the castle. It was a mere tease of what will unfold later in this season. Additionally, the episode showcased Giyu behaving differently, seemingly diminishing his title of Hashira. As the first episode of the new season, it delivered on all expectations, laying the foundation for training and new possible narratives with Giyu’s emotional response and other Hashiras.

Episode 5, “I Even Ate Demons”
The reason all the members of the Demon Slayer Corps had to go through each Hashira was due to all the Hashiras' specialties. After Tanjiro passes the tests presented by the Mist Hashira, he moves on to train under Mitsuri Kanroji. After going through some hard training under the previous Hashira, Kanroji presented simple challenges that only helped trainees stretch out their bodies and be more flexible. A heartful conversation between the Love Hashira and Tanjiro is also shared in this episode, both of themshowcasing love for the deceased Hashira Rengoku.
After Mitsuri’s training, Tanjiro moves on to train under Obanai, the Snake Hashira, who holds a comedic grudge against the protagonist for closeness with Mitsuri.This dynamic adds a comedic touch amid the rigorous training. Despite Obanai’s initial anger, he ultimately trains Tanjiro with a specialized approach. The episode then also features the Shinuzugawa brothers' dispute. With so much happening in one episode, the pacing might feel brisk, and, therefore, the unique approach of adding original anime scenes in other episodes makes them much better.

However, the highlight of the episode is undoubtedly knowing the reason why Giyu won’t consider himself a Hashira. He confesses that his friend Sabito, who died protecting him and others, should rightfully have taken his place. What enhances this narrative even further isTanjiro’s role in helping Giyu find a renewed purposeto honor Sabito’s sacrifice and carry on his legacy. Though this episode was filled with enriching storytelling, the other episodes have proven to be better in other significant ways.

Episode 6, “The Strongest of the Demon Slayer Corps
The final part of the Hashira Training process is passing the obstacles presented bythe Strongest Hashira Gyomei Himejima. This episode also stands out more than others becausethe main trio has the chance to reunitein a different setting than just fighting against demons. Zenitsu’s tantrum regarding the training was added and even enhanced by Ufotbale to be consistent with the character’s theme while Inosuke enriches the narrative with his wildness as usual.
However, the episode’s peak moment is when Tanjiro successfully passes the training through consistent efforts and help from others. Genya Shinazugawa returns in this episode and aids Tanjiro across the final hurdle in the training. The demon eater advises Tanjiro to draw strength from memories that stir his emotions, helping him achieve the ‘mark’ he strives for. As the episode approaches its end, Tanjiro pushes the boulder while recalling the memories of his family and Rengoku’s dying words. This moment is pivotal because it officially prepares Tanjiro to face Muzan in the impending final battle.

Episode 7, “Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima”
The penultimate episode ofDemon Slayer Hashira Training Arcis memorable thanks to Ufotbale going above and beyond to extend the length and content of this episode. The beginning of the episode dives into the poignant foundation that made the Strongest Hashira through a backstory. Impressed by Tanjiro’s honesty, Gyomei Himejima reflects on a memory from his past, revealing why he harbors distrust towards others, particularly children.
The heartbreaking backstory unveils Gyomei’s compassionate fostering of orphaned children, only to suffer betrayal from two of them. One child led a demon to attack Gyomei and the others, while another falsely accused Gyomei of causing their deaths. This poignant narrative alone makes the episode stand out, but it also features other compelling moments. Zenitsu’s mysterious motivation to become serious adds intrigue and the antics of Giyu and Tanjiro. However, what elevates this episode above others isthe unexpected and dramatic arrival of Muzan, which instantly went viral.

Episode 3, “Fully Recovered Tanjiro Joins the Hashira Training”
If it weren’t for Ufotable’s decision to add anime-original context in this season ofDemon Slayer, it could have concluded in less than four normal-length episodes. However, the addition of this original material ensures a well-paced narrative while also delving deeper into the emotional journeys of the Hashira. The pinnacle of this emotional exploration is exemplified by Tengen Uzui in the third episode.
In the manga, the conclusion of the Sound Hashira’s training was wrapped up in just two pages. However, the anime took the opportunity to delve deeper into Tengen’s post-retirement life, providing closure to his character. It is crafted well, depicting Tengen’s poignant regret and trauma following his retirement. This emotional journey finds resolution as Tengen dedicates himself wholeheartedly to training the next generation of Hashira, with the hope of passing the baton to Tanjiro and others.

Episode 4, “To Bring a Smile to One’s Face”
After a simple yet fulfilling training experience with the Sound Hashira, Tanjiro transitions to training under the Mist Hashira. This episode again stands out for the sole reason of Ufotbale adding original context. The first part of the episode features Muichiro’s determination to train the members of theDemon Slayerall day long and then additional training sessions at night, involving Muichiro along with the Wind Hashira and Snake Hashira.
This narrative illustrates thatbecoming a Hashira demands unwavering determination and continuous effort, alongside inherent talent. Whereas, the second part featured a heartful moment with Muichiro and the other demon slayers in a friendly competition of flying a paper plane. Though at first the scene may seem unnecessary, it teaches that taking breaks amidst intense effort is essential for maintaining balance on the path to achieving goals.
